What’s goin on?
Abrams sustained a knee injury during warmups in the seeason opener against Towson, perhaps a sign of things to come in that one…who knows. Anyway, he’s starting opposite Geremy Davis (19 receptions, 308 yards ) which means Shak Phillips (15×255, three touchdowns) isn’t starting. He’s not listed on this week’s depth chart at all. if he doesn’t play it would be the third game the junior has missed since re-injuring his hamstring late in the 32-21 loss to Maryland in which he pulled up noticeably at the end of his 75-yard catch run for a touchdown.
Dalton Gifford is going to start for the third consecutive game at right tackle in place of Kevin Friend (ankle). Xavier Hemingway is going to back him up.
It’s been an adventure at right tackle all season. Is this the week it gets better?
Taylor Mack (seven tackles, one interception) is back at his cornerback spot opposite Byron Jones. Mack (shoulder), didn’t make the trip to Buffalo, after getting hurt against Michigan.
And Jefferson Ashiru (17 tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery) will start for the third consecutive game in place of Graham Stewart (ankle).Stewart had 10 tackles in the two-plus games he played.
The Bulls registered their first win of the season on Saturday in beating Cincinnati – UConn interim head coach T.J. Weist’s former employer.
The UConn at Cincinnati game Oct.19 (noon) will be carried by ESPNU.
