What’s goin on?

Here are the particulars of “Connecticut Day” from UConn…

STORRS, Conn. (Sept. 27, 2012)  – The University of Connecticut vs. Buffalo football game on Saturday at Rentschler Field is “Connecticut Day”.  Kickoff is at noon.

Among the highlights of the “Connecticut Day” celebration will be:

* The UConn men’s basketball team will sign autographs at the “Fan Fest” from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. “Fan Fest” is located between Gates C and D. The 2012-13 Huskies will also be introduced during the first quarter of the game.

* Participants in the “Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities” (EBV) will take part in the pregame coin toss and will be recognized at halftime.  The program is an initiative designed to leverage the resources of UConn and other universities to offer training in entrepreneurship and small business management to veterans with disabilities resulting from their military service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

*The Trinity College women’s lacrosse team that won the NCAA Division III Championship last spring will be honored between the first and second quarters. UConn traditionally honors collegiate teams from the state of Connecticut that have won NCAA team championships.

* The New Haven-based Walter Camp Football Foundation will be recognized during the second quarter with many of their officers and members present. Each year, the Foundation names a College Football All-American team and their team is the oldest in the United States – first given 120 years ago in 1892. The annual Walter Camp Football Foundation Weekend is January 10-12, 2013 when all of the greats of the college football world converge on New Haven.

*Local Boy Scout troops have a parade at halftime around the field. These scouts are also having a campout at Rentschler Field on Friday night.

My jest of yesterday was in fun as there is so much going on tomorrow. I respect all the folks that will be honored and I do very much enjoy the game day experience. They will get my applause and cheers.

@ the boycott girl. I suggest you ask Desmond for my personal addy and I would love to spend some time to walk you around the stadium meeting the fans and families.

This would be a kick ass time for you as I would introduce you to all the supporters and parents of the players you consider a garbage product on the field. This would get you up close and personal with the supporters of young student athletes working their butts off to be the best that they could possibly be at their sport. That and keep up with the classes and the books.

You are obviously not a fan of this team but I would give you the tour just so you could get what you deserve. Then again I would consider it nice if you just boycott. With fans like you who needs enemies….

The disappointment and frustrations leading someone to speak about a “boycott” are hardly directed toward 18, 19, 20, 21 year old student athletes. Ultimately, they are kids; doing the best they can (and many times doing it very well!). The frustrations are properly directed toward the adults (and senior citizens) in the Athletic Dept and on the Coaching Staff. So….let’s set up a “meet and greet” with those folks.

@lets boycott you know what? even though i dont disagree with anything you said above, do you want to know why you still go to games? Because its family and friends, its fall in new england are you are outside, its a culinary feast where everyone brings something to share with each other, its enjoying a sport with no TV’s, radios, or internet. People want to complain about the team and not go to games, thats fine. All i know from now on at any game is, I will enjoy the day, enjoy my friends and family, and be thankful for what I have

  5. Let's boycott says:

10 dollar beers, over priced food, garbage product on the field, staff not getting it done. Why not.

“garbage product on the field” who are you watching? Connecticut Football is retooling and this is not a McDonalds drive thru. Sio Moore, Yavin Smallwood, Blidi Wreh-Wilson, Trevardo Williams, Dwayne Gratz, Tyler Mack, Ryan Wirth, John Delahunt, Ryan Griffin, “The” Nick Williams, Lyle McCombs, I’m even going Johnny McEntee, he gave us everything he had last year without a scholarship, Alex Mateas we have not heard his name this year and that is the way it should be for a center, Michael Osiecki huge Big East season ahead for him, I hope you kind of get the idea, if not I can continue to list the players for you, but now I must ask you where exactly is the garbage?

    • Matt (Chicago) says:

maybe you are boycotting the games but thank god for us that you’re not boycotting this board… your comments are so insightful.
