What’s goin on?

We learned this week that promising reserve redshirt junior tackle Stephen Brown left the team..

The Clifton Park, N.Y. native always focused on graduating in four years (a fifth would have meant $40K for his family to cough up).

In order to graduate in the four years he needs to take two courses that are only offered in the fall for his major, Resource Economics.

They are afternoon courses as well and would conflict with practice. So with that, according to Brown’s mother, Mary D’Ambrosio, Stephen decided to give up football.

“Coach [Paul] Pasqualoni was terrific to him, very understanding,” Mary said.

She added: “[Stephen] will definitely miss not being on the football team but he is staying at UConn.”

She said her son is going to try to make the ski team at UConn.

“He was a NYS {New York State] silver medalist high school slalom racer (no small feat for a big guy) two years in a row and a Junior Olympian USSA racer so he will be returning to a sport he loves and did well in,” Mary said. “UConn has a Division II ski team racing in the USCSA so he is looking forward to the high caliber competition on the slopes.”

Good to luck to Stephen and a special shout out to his mom, a loyal follower and supporter here and a friend.

She’d email something positive or encouraging out of the blue. She didn’t have to do that but I sure did appreciate it, Mary. I hope it doesn’t stop.

Thanks for everything and again good luck to Stephen, a class act, Mary, the same and the family..

    Thanks for the update DC,
Got to give Stephen props for puttin’ in the
work to help elevate the team, especially as a walk-on.
As I said this years media guide had him as a 2, so he can always have piece of mind that he moved ahead of
guys that got a full ride.

UConn has one heckuva ski team and race at a very high level for being essentially a club sport. I will enjoy watching him race as I do get to some of their races during the winter.

There are more important things in life than grown men playing a kids game for our entertainment. Stephen you clearly have your priorities in the right place. Good luck to you, and thank you for all your efforts wearing the Blue and White for us!
