Here’s the Associated Press report through WLWT.com on how the two sides settled this issue.

West Virginia will be richer for the move to the Big 12 but shouldn’t expect to hang any championship banners any time soon.

Football-wise…could be wrong but I think it’s going to be ugly for a little bit.

7 Responses to West Virginia Going South For Good, Parts Ways With Big East

I still don’t understand how Marinatto allowed this to get to this point. What is the purpose of the 27 month waiting period? You’ve just rendered it impotent by letting WVU leave. This is gross negligence on the part of the league toward the football schools. The league better act and act fast. Either get Boise in now or do something. Schools need to know what to do in terms of scheduling. It’s less than 7 months from season and schools don’t know if they need to fill 1 or some cases, 2 open slots. What a friggin mess. Need to cut the chord with the basketball onlies and ND. I’ll even let them keep Memphis for good measure.

College sports continues to slide downhill.

Dez, I would have sued the Big 12 too. Oliver Luck what a scum bag. I’m glad his son did not win the Heisman.

      Dave,

If the B12 or B10 invited UConn to join but they had to join for 2012 you would be okay if UConn said we will pass? And you would feel okay if Rutgers then took your spot?

People need to get off their high horse, if UConn had the same opportunity they would have jumped at it.

      • Sillyboy says:

Exactly….UConn would jump at any chance to go to a better, more financially-rewarding conference…what a joke Big East football has become…a 7-team league next year? With a BCS reward? Really???

  3. UCFBfan says:

It’s time to move on and get one of the new teams to join for 2012. If I recall, the biggest reason some schools aren’t moving is because there’s no exit fee for waiting a year to exit. I can’t recall if that’s the MWC or C-USA’s policy but if that’s the case, the Big East just got $20 million richer. Time to pay for at least one school’s exit fee and get them on the schedule to fill the hole left by WVU.

WVU would have been the favorite for the Big East’s BCS bid, now the Big East is $20 million richer and has a 5 in 7 chance to keep our Big East bid from any defectors.

    • Sillyboy says:

Even if it were the SEC, no football “league” should have a BCS bid with only 7 schools…especially when at the end of the day, our “football league” will likely be without any ranked teams.
