About

Allow me to introduce myself: Name is Dom Amore, short for Dominic. Please, please note the letter m.

I’m moving onto the UConn men’s basketball beat for The Courant, replacing Mike Anthony, who moves on. It’s that way in our racket, beat writers move around after a few years. Fresh approaches, new challenges.

This is a new challenge for me. In 23 years at The Courant, I’ve covered high schools (1989-92), small colleges, the Giants (1992-99) and the Yankees (1999-2007), the Whalers (1995), and dabbled in just about everything else we’ve covered over the years. I’ve been a general assignment reporter the past four years, focusing on baseball at all levels.

I’ve traveled all over the country and once to Japan for The Courant, but I’ve never lived anywhere but Connecticut. I like it that way. I last covered UConn basketball semi-regularly as sports editor of the Milford Citizen in the late 1980s, ending with the NIT final in 1988, so it’s been a while. But the Huskies’ place in the hearts of Connecticut fans hasn’t changed much since then, only grown stronger. I know the passion, I’ve felt it every day of my career in whatever corner of the state, or continent, I’ve been in.

So we begin anew here, a new chapter for me. I will be re-learning basketball, the nuances of the college game and the brand that is played at UConn. I’ll probably learn a lot from you along the way as well. Fire away, just keep it civil, and keep it fun.
