Amida Brimah’s break-through game against Central Florida on Saturday night was enough to get him the American Athletic Conference’s rookie of the week award for the first time.
Brimah had 20 points, eight rebounds and five blocks in 20 minutes during UConn’s 84-61 win – by far his best totals of the season and by far the best game from a Huskies center.
“As good a game as he had tonight, he’ s going to get better,” said UConn’s associate head coach Glen Miller, who has been working with Brimah .
Shabazz Napier, who had 14 points and 11 assists in the game, as well as 18 points, four assists against Harvard, made the AAC’s honor roll. Shaq Goodwin of Memphis was the player of the week.
