Boatright’s Attorney Angry with NCAA, Considering “Legal Options”
The Ryan Boatright saga may not be quite finished. Scott Tompsett, the attorney representing Tanesha Boatright, just sent out the following e-mail. Upset over the information released by the NCAA, Tompsett hints that legal action is possible. Here is his statement in full:
I am astounded that the NCAA released confidential information about Ryan’s case. Ryan and his mother Tanesha cooperated fully with the NCAA with the clear understanding that the information they provided would be kept confidential and would not be released to the public. The NCAA has violated the Boatrights’ privacy by releasing their personal information.
Moreover, the NCAA’s statement contains false and misleading information. For example, the statement implies that the benefits in question were provided to influence Ryan’s decision either to attend UConn or chose an agent, if and when he goes pro. That is false and the NCAA knows it. In fact, the two individuals who provided the benefits are friends of the Boatrights. They were simply helping the family with no expectation of repayment or reciprocation. And there’s not a shred of evidence that they influenced Ryan’s decision to attend UConn or that they intend to represent Ryan if he ever goes pro. The public also should know that the NCAA never told Tanesha and Ryan who made the accusations about them or told them the substance of the accusations so they could defend themselves. Further, contrary to the NCAA’s statement, neither Tanesha nor Ryan received a car from anyone.
Until the NCAA released its statement, the Boatrights considered this matter closed. But the NCAA’s improper release of private and false information has caused the Boatrights to consider their legal options.

Good..Go after them, enough of the NCCA is enough….
It’s time the NCAA and it’s Gestapo tactics get taken down. The sad part is that the cost to do it is beyond the ability of the average person to pay for. Maybe a class action suit by member Universities is in order. I would guess however, that the pet institutions like the SEC and the protected coaches across the country would protest loudly.
Due process, confidentiality, truthfullness, fairness and consideration for the young people involved do not seem to be in the NCAA play book. With the major universities more interested in money for bowl games than the continuation of college athletics as we used to know them it appears that that everyone would like to just look the otherway. And, you have school like UCONN that have been brow beaten into putting up no resistance for fear of retaliation from the gestapo of college athletics. Let’s see if there is a single university president with the stones to stand up to them. My money would be on no!
The NCAA probably figures the attorney’s threat to be nonthreatening on the basis the Boatwright family are just the little people with no money. That is why the NCAA can treat them so gosh awfull. Have you heard of this happening to a kid whose family is powerful and prominent?
Did the NCAA not cover this during their first inquiry? Was this second punitive round to cover their butts?
I hate such strong arm tactics whether done by the NCAA, schools, or government.
I think the NCAA and their vast sums a accumulated wealth, gotten from the labors of you like Boatright, should be sued. I think it’s hypocritical of the NCAA to believe that these guys can’t even get a job a a supermarket or gas station while in college to at least meet their needs for incidentals, like maybe taking out their girlfriends on a data? Suing the NCAA might be a great way to get them to part with some of their, what I consider their ill gotten gain by this modern slave trade all in the name of amateur collegiate sports.

How do you give back to Ryan Boatright what the NCAA has unfairly taken away? How about Ryan is given part of the proceeds from the sale of his jersey this season?
I’m glad this attorney is considering legal action, because plainly and simply: the NCAA is lying!! They had to come up with some crap as to why they held him out, and what they came up with was exactly that: crap! Get them out of their Gestapo Meeting Room and into this country’s courts!!
