Huskies Notes: UConn-Maryland to Start at 6:30; Phil Nolan Coming Up Big In Estonia; An Honor for Mike McKay

by Categorized: Phil Nolan, UConn men's basketball

A couple of UConn notes …

The starting time for the opening game, against Maryland at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, was announced. The game will start at 6:30 p.m., significant because, you may have heard, UConn is also playing football against Louisville that night. The football game starts at 8:30.

So, while it will be impossible to go to both, you can watch both on TV, unless the basketball game goes OT. You can watch basketball while tailgating at the football game.

Phil Nolan is playing for the East Coast All-Stars, representing the U.S. in the Four Nations Cup in Estonia this week.

Nolan had four points and four rebounds in 14 minutes as the East Coast stars defeated Belarus 71-68, Nolan hit two key free throws in the final minute of the game – that’s welcome news to Huskies fans. Here is more on the Four Nations tournament.

He also had four points and four rebounds and two blocks on Tuesday, in his team’s exhibition win over Estonia. Nolan will play two more games in Talinn, Estonia, as the tournament wraps up this weekend.

Mike McKay, who played for UConn from 1979-82, scoring in double figures each year, is being inducted into the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame. McKay, from Bridgeport, played in the NCAA Tournament and three times in the NIT while with the Huskies. He’s 12th on UConn’s career scoring list.
