Jim Calhoun Among Honorees at Dick Vitale’s Gala in May

by Categorized: Jim Calhoun, UConn men's basketball

Jim Calhoun will be honored at the Dick Vitale Gala on May 17 at the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, Fla., a star-studded event that benefits the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

We will let Vitale take it from here …

“Jimmy V would be so proud to know that all our celebrities are so gracious to join us in keeping Jimmy’s dream alive of finding a cure for cancer. Words can’t describe how thrilled I am each year to have so many stars join us and give of their time and support at this very special event.  They are AWESOME, BABY, WITH A CAPITAL A!”

Among those honored along with Calhoun, a cancer survivor, are Bill Self and Bobby Bowden. Among those college basketball coaches scheduled to attend are Mike Brey, Mark Gottfried, Jim Larranaga, Steve Prohm and Jay Wright. This is Vitale’s eighth Gala; last year, the event raised $2.1 million for pediatric cancer research. Tickets start at $1,000.

It’s a shame that there’s a need to “honor” someone who put UCONN on probation before he “retired”.

Truthful, judging by your comment you’ve proven to me how much of an absolute moron you really are! Jim Calhoun has done more for our state and it’s flagship school then anyone or anybody else could ever do to put us on the map of relevance in college hoops. Granted he could have been a bit more diligent in the kids accedemic progress, but what he’s accused of doing, by you and others who think like you, is absurd. Truth be told the man deserves praise and love from all the people of Ct. for our rise to nat’l prominence on the hoops scene, not stupid comments from what to me seems a bitter Calhoun hater like you…go hide your head in the sand pal, because you can’t see the forest for the trees.

You’re a funny guy to understand. Now you’re saying that fighting cancer is something you don’t care about??? Well, you can have your own opinions about things, of course, but you certainly are a courious egg to understand. I thought you only had bad feelings about JC, but I see you’re just an overall hater. Tell me…do you also beat your wife and kids?

Isn’t Jim Calhoun getting cancer a just punishment for destroying UCONN basketball?

You should honestly be barred from commenting and kicked off the blog for that comment.

Why did Rice at Rutgers get fired for doing what Jim Calhoun did his entire career?

I have no friends in my life. I look at this blog every 7 minutes on average hoping that I can be the first to post. I am a loser troll. You guys make me feel like I’m less of a loser because you always reply to my posts. Reality is that I have no friends in the entire world. Making you guys respond to my posts makes me feel less like a loser.
