Jim Calhoun’s annual holiday food distribution event is on schedule for next Monday, Dec. 16, at Pope Park in Hartford.

Calhoun will be joined by his family, by a number of current Huskies players, Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra, to provide 600 holiday dinners, an 18-pound turkey and fixings, to needy families in the city. Since the coach began this effort in 1999, more than $1.9 million has been raised to help needy families in the state.

ShopRite, the Hartford law firm of RisCassi and Davis, Omar Coffee are among the sponsors this year, with the City of Hartford’s Department of Families, Children, Youth and Recreation and of Health and Human Services providing support.

Calhoun and the UConn players will be distributing the meals between 5 and 7 p.m. at the Pope Park Recreation Center, 30 Pop Park Drive in Hartford.
