Kevin Ollie: ‘Don’t Believe Everything You Hear …’

by Categorized: Uncategorized

Kevin Ollie offered an update on his coaching plans via his Twitter account, dispelling reports he may talk with an NBA team any time soon.

Here is his tweet, coming about 2 p.m. on Tuesday:

“Don’t Believe everything you hear!! Only meeting I have is with my team on Thursday at Gampel. We are preparing everyday for greatness!!

Ollie is heading to Washington, D.C. to appear on a panel discussion with other coaches, including Geno Auriemma, before an audience of servicemen and women at the Pentagon. When he tweeted about his trip Tuesday morning, Ollie drew a wave of responses from fans in Los Angeles, urging him to “come home” and coach the Lakers, and from UConn fans, urging him to stay put. The Lakers job opened last Wednesday, when Mike D’Antoni resigned and Ollie, who grew up in LA, has been prominently mentioned among candidates.

A source close to Ollie, requesting anonymity, confirmed for the Courant that an NBA team, other than the Lakers, has reached out. But Ollie has no plans to meet with anyone. He “exhanged ideas” with UConn on Tuesday, the source said, as talks aimed at a new contract continue.
