There will be no UConn alumni basketball game this summer, that happens every other year.
But both Kevin Ollie and Jim Calhoun have golf events coming up in the next few weeks. Jim Calhoun’s Celebrity Golf Classic is on for Aug. 11 and 12 at Mohegan Sun Country Club and the Golf Club of Avon. The event, launched in 1999, has raised millions for the Jim and Pat Calhoun Cardiology Research Endowment Fund at the UConn Health Center, and always brings an exciting cast of former UConn players and other celebrities.
This year, North Carolina Coach Roy Williams is coming, his way of honoring his retired rival. Williams will participate Monday (Aug. 12) at Avon, which gets under way at 11:30 a.m., a shotgun start.
The event begins at Mohegan Sun at 11 a.m. on Aug. 11; the public is invited to the golf courses. Ray Allen, Kevin Ollie, Steve Pikiell, Scott Burrell, Tom Moore, Andre LaFleur, Travis Knight, Ricky Moore, Jamelle Elliott are among those I’m told are coming. Call 860-674-1500 for more info.
Kevin Ollie’s Charity Golf Classic, which benefits The Tolland Fund, is coming up on Aug. 5 at Glastonbury Hills CC. Click here for more information.
We’ll pass along more details on both events as they draw closer.
