Mailbag 4/30: On UConn’s Non-Conference Opponents for 2012-13
Question: Any word on our opponents for next season? I heard Washington… Anyone else? Also, when do we find out?
Gregory
Storrs
A: Gregory, as you mentioned, UConn has formalized a home and home series with Washington which will begin at either XL or Gampel next Dec. 29. Also, UConn is committed to the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands, with potential opponents for the three games including Quinnipiac, George Mason, New Mexico, Iona, Mercer, Illinois-Chicago (UIC), and Wake Forest.
These are the only games finalized right now, but I’m told more of the schedule will be firmed up over the next few weeks.

Given the state of UConn’s roster at the moment, I don’t know whether playing UConn in a non-conference game is a good thing or a bad thing for potential opponents. I’d think it’s a good thing for some of the teams UConn fans have considered “cupcakes” in the past since the possibility of a victory over the Huskies may be greater than in the past. For higher-profile teams, having UConn on the non-conference schedule may not do as much to strengthen that opponent’s RPI as it might have in previous years. Of course, much remains to be seen in terms of which big men the Huskies will sign for 2012-13 and whether the Huskies will be competitive.
I actually don’t actually know how I ended up right here, but I thought this article was very good. I do not know who you actually are but surely you’re going to a popular blogger if you are not presently
What about Texas? Don’t we have two games left in that series?
This was written just before the announcement of the Jimmy V Classic. UConn also has a scheduled game on Dec 4th against NCState.
Will there be any where else I can get information and facts about this? I’m thinking I may write my term paper on it.
