Mailbag 5/7: Huskies’ Recruiting Update …

by Categorized: Kevin Ollie, Mailbag, Rodney Purvis, UConn men's basketball

Q: Dom, what is the news on the recruiting front? Who are KO and UConn targeting? And what are realistic chances of the Huskies landing these prospects?

A: Hi Jeff. The main development this week was Daniel Hamilton’s visit. Hamilton, 6-foot-6, the brother of Jordan Hamilton and a very highly rated shooting guard from the Los Angeles area, visited last weekend, as was scheduled a while ago. Daniel came with his parents. This visit went well, by all accounts, including Hamilton’s quote to Adam Zagoria (read here).

UConn is still limited in the number of official visits it can host, so the coaches must feel they have a pretty  good chance to land a player before having him come to Storrs. I would say that is the case here. Hamilton would be a great get for UConn, and represent a break-through for Kevin Ollie in his hometown. They are very working hard to land him.

The Huskies are probably done for this year, unless something crazy happens. The focus is on the Classes of 2014 and 15, and the net cast is very, very wide, with so many seniors on the team now, so there’s sense throwing names out on that yet. But with Rodney Purvis, eligible for 2014-15, in the fold, UConn can be more selective, aim higher, and Hamilton’s visit could represent such an up-shift.
