Michael Bradley Denied Hardship Waiver at WKU [CBSSports.com]
Michael Bradley, who transferred from UConn after last season, was denied a hardship waiver to play right away at Western Kentucky, according to a report by CBSSports’ Jeff Borzello, who tweeted the news Sunday.
Bradley, 6-foot-9, was transferring from UConn to WKU to be closer to his grandmother in Chattanooga, Tenn., who has been diagnosed with cancer. Though UConn is all but certain to be ineligible for the NCAA Tournament next year, Bradley needed a waiver because he has more than one year eligibility left. It seemed fairly certain, based on precedent, that he would get that waiver, but the NCAA has decided against it. Bradley has yet to play in college. He redshirted as a freshman at UConn, and missed all last season after ankle surgery. Now he would have to sit another full year.
The school will appeal the decison, according to this report from the WKU Herald.

These officials in the upper NCAA are as crooked and dirty as the people who roam the halls of congress. What type of illness is required? No explanation on why it was denied and no one to answer to.
Could there be any where else I can get details about this? I’m thinking I may possibly write my term paper on it.
Interesting ruling. I am usually not a conspiracy theorist, but it sure seems the NCAA is out to make a lesson out of UCONN and, unfortunately, even punishing the players associated with the program. I sincerely hope this is not the beginning of the downward spiral we are unable to get out of …
You may be right.
Hello I actually believe that you have got a fantastic web log going here, I noticed it on Msn and plan on revisiting frequently for the facts that you all are supplying.|Many thanks for making my evening a little tad greater with this superb posting
Hi I feel you have got a good blog page going right here, I found it on Google and plan on coming back again on a regular basis for the advice that you all are supplying.|Bless you for helping to make my day a small bit far better with this wonderful content
Once again the NCAA demonstrates that it doesn’t really care about the athlete as a person. One begins to wonder what it actually does care about. A player who hasn’t set foot on the floor isn’t likely to make a major impact at Western Kentucky so it’s not a money thing.
Oh wait, could it be power, we have you, you don’t, just when you think you know what we should do we shall do as we please.
When is an attorney going to have the gumpstion and energy to take this group to task?
I don’t even know how I ended up here, but I thought this posting was good. I really do not know who you are but certainly you’re going to a prominent blogger if you aren’t already
Uconn is the ONLY large school to have Failed the APR Rating. They deserve what is coming to them. Next time More Studying !!!!!
They’re not even the only school in the Big East to have failed, much less the country.
UConn may deserve what’s coming to them, but it’s today’s players–who have been hitting the books and doing well academically–who will suffer because of the academic shortcomings of their predecessors. Most of UConn’s APR problem stems from several years back when a whole bunch of players either left for the NBA or finished their eligibility, stopped going to classes, and got drafted by the NBA. UConn’s main failing was not demanding that the departing players leave with all of their course work up to date, not from putting players on the floor who were academically ineligible. A number of UConn players in the past decade were suspended from the team by the school for not performing in the classroom, so it’s not like UConn wasn’t aware of academic problems. But what are you supposed to do when an NBA-draftable player decides not to finish course his work? Maybe UConn should sue the players who left and didn’t finish their courses.
The score actually had more to do with Jonathon Mandeldove quitting school early and Darius Smith announcing he would transfer and then not complete the spring semester. Thats the thing that makes it so tough to swallow in my opinion, two complete non factors choose to quit school and the kids who are working hard suffer. There is nothing the coaches or the administration can do to force the kids to finish the semester, its not like they sign a contract agreeing to do so, which is unfortunate because the decisions of two kids to give up has tainted the image of the university and the program because this truth is never explained in any article.
good quality post, Now i’m posting it on FACEBOOK!
Hi there I just think you have got a fantastic blog site going right here, I came across it on Google and plan on coming back routinely for the knowledge that you all are featuring.|Thanks a lot for making my day a tiny bit better with this very good page
Hey sweet Jane, there’s more to it. You can’t force students who quit school because there transfering or going to work out for NBA clubs. This new rule punishes good students who had remarkable scores the last two years it does not make sense. The NCAA always says it pro kids. Yea right! PS Looks like the girls scores are starting to slip. It must be that CPTV issue or the girls are out partying with each other.
good post, Now i’m posting it on MYSPACE!
You’re right! The NCAA is decidedly pro-NCAA. The NCAA has put itself in the position of policing college sports, and that means punishing transgressors–even if their laws are unfair to students, make no sense, and ignore reality. Kids are secondary. The NCAA doesn’t officially recognize the fact that top players will leave early to go to the NBA and that these players are nothing like student athletes. They are athletes who have to endure the indignity of going to class in order to stay eligible so they can display their skills for NBA scouts. The NCAA knows this, but they can’t admit that they know it. The one-and-done players make a bundle of money for the NCAA and their schools, and to admit that these players are not really students would spell the end of the NCAA. On the other hand, without a governing body, college sports would be like the Wild West. Only the top schools would be able to compete at the highest level, and . . . Oh wait. Only the top schools are able to compete at the highest level now, so what is the purpose of the NCAA?
”STUDENT/athletes”? A huge joke. With few exceptions these bozos are there for one thing SPORTS. These schools would accept any whack job as long as he can put a ball through a hoop.
