Shabazz Napier had to leave the tryouts for the Puerto Rico Olympic team because of recurring problems with his right foot. He is still wearing a walking boot, wearing at Mohegan Sun Arena where he watched the Jim Calhoun charity all-star game Saturday night.

Napier won’t be taking full part in practices until September.

“I’ll have to wear [the boot] another 2 ½-3 weeks,” he said. “It feels great. I got a CAT-scan the other day and its healing up. I feel like I’m going into the season 100 percent.”

Napier was going to make Team Puerto Rico, but thought it best to get himself right for the college season and try for the Olympics in the future.

“It was tough, I wanted to play [in the Olympics],” he said. “But I felt like I couldn’t go hard. And I know the Olympics are always going to be there. I only have two more years of college.”

You had 20 plus ex Husky players in CT this weekend and you can’t write a story giving us a brief recap of what they are doing now? In theory, you are newspaper reporter – is it too much to ask that you actually take advantage of opportunities like this game and do the job of the Beat Reporter?

The Courant’s coverage of the Huskies is a huge disappointment.

    Scooped again:

Jim Calhoun said he will be leaving the hospital Tuesday and returning to work in about week.

“Nothing has changed,” he told the Boston Globe’s Mark Blaudshun. “I will be going about my business.”

Calhoun, 70, fractured his left hip in a fall from his bicycle in Madison on Saturday, hours before his charity basketball game at Mohegan Sun Arena. Calhoun had surgery late Saturday night.

How is it that a guy who writes for the Boston Globe is getting quotes from Jim and the best Dom can do is reprint them.

Dom Amore how do we Uconn MBB fans get you from a “C+” Courant writer to an “A+”. The fan base deserves a better job of coverage for Uconn basketball. The Courant support for our State program is not moving to the next level.

Please commit to improvement. Thank you.

It’s enormously frustrating because I know that in other cities/states where they play big time college basketball, being the Beat Reporter for the men’s team is a job that’s given to a top sports reporter.

Anthony did a better job. Altavilla does a better job with the women’s team. Des does a better job with football. They all do. Even Jacobs gets more UConn stories and he often admits that he and Jim don’t see eye to eye.

Dom just sucks. On a sheer output level alone he sucks. And often when he does write, it’s a story that someone else has reported. Frankly, the Courant should be embarrassed.

    • it seems like your site ate my initial remark (it was extremely lengthy) so I suppose I’ll just sum it up what I posted and say, I’m completely enjoying your website. I too am an aspiring web site blogger but I’m still brand-new to everything. Do you have any very helpful hints for new blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.I heard somebody talking about this on the radio yesterday, but I can’t remember what station it was.

I’ve been picking up on what you’re putting down, Sven. I’m not some kind of jerk who makes a habit of insulting random reporters in the comment section for no reason. In this case, the criticism is warranted because Dom is doing a really lousy job of covering the Huskies.

As Tom pointed out, the fans of this program deserve better coverage. It’s unfortunate that the Courant has selected a reporter who is clearly disinterested in his assignment. Where are the stories about the pro-am circuit? Where are the stories about the incoming frosh? Where are the stories that weren’t cut and pasted from somewhere else?

Dom may be comfortable being a lazy hack of a reporter, but I can’t believe there aren’t others who would love to be the beat reporter for this team and would actually do a competent job. It’s time for a change.
