UConn guard Shabazz Napier has passed on a chance to play in the Olympics. Napier, who was trying out for the Puerto Rico national team, began to feel discomfort in his right foot, an injury that bothered him off and on during the season, and decided to return home to Boston. He didn’t want to risk his college season by going hard on the foot all summer. Puerto Rico coach Flor Melendez told UConn officials that Napier had made the team, and would be a strong candidate to play for Puerto Rico in future events. The Puerto Rico team will be playing in an Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Venezuela.
