This is not the first, and probably won’t be the last time we write this sentence:

UConn’s Shabazz Napier is the American Athletic Conference player of the week.

Napier, who won the award a couple of weeks back, took the honor with him when he ran off the court Dec. 2, after hitting the game-winning shot against Florida. He scored 26 points in that game.

Against Maine on Friday, Napier played only 22 minutes in the rout, getting seven points, eight assists and five rebounds. With those assists, he became the fourth player in UConn history get 500 assists along with 1,000 points.

The Huskies are off until Dec. 18.

The AAC honor roll for last week included Sean Kilpatrick of Cincinnati, Montrezi Harrell of Louisville, Shaq Goodwin of Memphis, Nic Moore of SMU and Anthony Lee of Temple – players UConn will be seeing soon, when league play begins on Dec. 31.

Chris Perry of South Florida was Rookie of the Week.
