UConn 73, Villanova 70 (OT): George Blaney’s Take
“I just told the team that is was a great team win. I was really proud of the fact that we maneuvered some guys a little more than usual. I brought Shabazz [Napier] off the bench not knowing if he could play or not. I inserted Roscoe [Smith] at the three and he was phenomenal. Pinkston had 13 points, but it was an expensive 13. I think he took 17 shots to get it, so I was really happy with that.
“I thought Ryan Boatright did a terrific job defensively. Shabazz played [Dominic] Cheek and for the most part played him pretty well. Andre Drummond was blocking shots and had 11 rebounds and was a monster. Alex [Oriakhi] came in and gave us two key baskets that were really important. … I thought No. 3 was just okay tonight. [joking]”
On Napier’s winning shot: “I set the play up for him. (again, joking) … No, but he does that. He has done it in high school and he has done it here. He is really good when he feels it. When he is on, he can pull up from any place. The one problem playing in the pro arena is you have the pro line so you get a little confused from that. He was a good three or four feet off the line at least.
“I want Jeremy to continue to shoot. He’s a jump shooter. He doesn’t go to the rim that much, although he did go to the rim a few times tonight. For him to score, he may have to take 20 shots. You may go 9 for 13 some nights, but some nights you may go 10-for-20. And that opens up the floor other things.”

Roscoe is always good defensively, and he has proven he can hit the three when he gets the open look. Perhaps they should leave him in the starting lineup and put the 3-guard lineup on the shelf for a bit.
Well it’s a win, good to get it on a foreign floor. Not much scoring balance. Drummond needs to get the ball down low more for TWO HAND DUNKS, not like the one handed dunk he tried. This team seems to lack basics. They continue to not shoot foul shots well and that almost killed them at the end. Less than 50% from the line??????? Lamb seemed to get his stroke going with more shots.
The team is playing much to slowly, 25 – 30 seconds on each possession. Too much wasted time at the top of the key. Even when they were ahead of the defense they backed off to play the clock again and again. WHY?????
Too many players pass up open shots all the time. If they are told not to shoot why are they on the floor?
The point guards need to make more plays instead of just dribbling. This team seems to want to make the hard shot and pass on the open shots. Why?????? Strange.
Allen, You are saying exactly what i see night in and night out ! That being said it was a good win over a worse team then us
superior post, I’m sharing it on FACEBOOK!
