UConn vs. Fordham: Checking In From XL Center

HARTFORD – Checking in at the XL Center, with UConn vs. Fordham about an hour away.

UConn is planning the same lineup it has had the last two games, with Enosch Wolf joining Shabazz Napier, Ryan Boatright, Omar Calhoun and DeAndre Daniels.

However, you may see more of Tyler Olander, or you may see him earlier at least. One of the coaches was telling me he has shown improvement, “freed himself up” in recent practices. That reminds me of something Kevin Ollie said, regarding Olander, a couple of weeks ago, “you can’t be a player who gets in your own way.”

So if he gets in, we’ll see if he’s more assertive.

Coaches were intrigued with Leon Tolksdorf’s play in 20 minutes against UMES. You may see more of him tonight.

Bob Valvano, who was scheduled to work this game as analyst for the SNY telecast, was recovering from a heart attack on Friday. Bristol’s Malcolm Huckaby, who played at Boston College and with the Miami Heat, fills, working with Doug Sherman. Keep Bob in your thoughts as he recovers.
