UConn vs. Georgetown: Checking in From Gampel
STORRS – Checking in from Gampel with some pregame notes and quotes. UConn vs. Georgetown starts in about 1 hour, 20 minutes.
Same lineup as usual for the Huskies: Tyler Olander, DeAndre Daniels, Omar Calhoun, Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright.
Look for lots of Niels Giffey off the bench. Talked to Giffey a bit this week about his recent productivity:.
“I have more confidence,” he said, “I’m being more aggressive. I guess as a junior, I’ve got to be more aggressive like that. “Really, it’s just my mindset. I’ve always had the ability to score, once in a while it popped up in games. I’m trying to be more consistent now, not forcing shots but actually working for my shot.”
Giffey has been especially confident in taking the three. He has been open a lot.
“It’s the natural flow of things,” he said. “Boat and ‘Bazz are our main guys. Everybody is scouting us this year, people have been stepping out on screens, double teaming them on pick-and-rolls. So all of us have been getting more shots. I’ve just been taking them.”

UConn has a group of recruits from Wilbraham-Monson attending the game tonight. Goodluck Okonoboh, 6-foot-9, from the Class of ’14 is a big target. A few of the 2015 kids worth watching are, Luis Montero, 6-7, Curtis Cobb III, 6-4, and Marcel Pettway, 6-6.
*****
Toby Kimball had 34 rebounds for UConn against New Hampshire on this night, Feb. 27, 1965. If the Huskies can grab 34 as a team tonight, they’d be in pretty good shape.

There were a few dozen tickets left this afternoon, but UConn officials expect this to be a sellout by game-time. Student section is already full.

Ed Corbett, Michael Stephens, John Gaffney are your officials for the evening.
NBA Teams with seats reserved for scouts: Thunder, Rockets, Hornets, Celtics, Bobcats.

I predict Georgetown will beat UCONN on the court, in the classroom, and in conference earnings.
Interesting to Calhoun with another lousy game against a good team.
