UConn vs. Louisville: Looking out for No. 1? Let the excitement build.

by Categorized: UConn men's basketball

CHICAGO – Just tapping out a few notes as I wait out a long delay in Chicago, making my way back home.

The fog back in Connecticut made travel a nightmare for everyone, including Louisville. The Cardinals, ESPN’s Andy Katz tweeted, will have to travel to Hartford on Monday, the day of the game.

And that game takes on even more significance now. With Duke and Michigan losing, Louisville could vault from No. 3 to No.1 by game time. The polls come out midday Monday. And UConn, with its upset at No. 17 Notre  Dame, could move back into the top 25.

The last time UConn played the No. 1 team was on Jan. 23, 2010, and the Huskies beat Texas 88-74.

Though I am not home yet, I assume the excitement is building for the game. Tickets were available on Sunday morning, and still selling in late afternoon. My guess is, it will be a sell-out, or close to it.

Here’s more info on getting tickets, UConn sends you here.

The Huskies, without a postseason, must look at games like this as their championship games – live in the moment, and this is a big moment. Here is my story for the Monday Courant.

These are such sad days for UConn athletics that at least these guys have given their all. For that we all admire them. Shame on the Big East for the continued tourney banishment and shame on the pres and ad for not getting this reversed.

Anybody besides me really ticked off at this conference! It is total b.s. that they don’t let UConn in the final Big East tournament. This goes to show you that loyalty gets you nowhere. We are paying our penalties because they wanted to punish Calhoun for being able to get Drummond despite the NCAA sanctions. I hope the garden is half-full for the tournament. Since we know its all about the money anyway, you would think these jerks in charge would want the UConn fans paying the money. They punish the kids on this team for something they didn’t have anything to do with. The grades are up and “THE BIG EAST” has the power to change the ruling. The Ncaa sees what they want to see. Investigate Kentucky and Duke, I am sure you could come up with something.

I was just reiewing the video on the building of Louisville’s KFC Yum Center. This program has the momentum of what UCONN had back in the Lew Perkins days. How the mighty have fallen! As a hardcore Husky Fan this really hurts. Combine this with the Big East fiasco, ACC, and NCAA sanctions, the hole in the ship is so big that it’s sinking too fast. If we can re-build the program, let’s start with the fans. All you have to do is watch the ACC games. The enthusiam is great because they seat the students around the whole arena. Watch a UCONN game and the kids are shoved under one basket only! You see all these middle aged people in these seats with their arms folded watching the gamelike they are in their living room! Improve the facilities. Gampel is too small and the XL is a dump! Ollie is a great coach. Get us in a competitive league, national exposure, improve the facilities, more students at the lower levels, elevate fan enthusiam, create a new and improved marketing brand, and recruiting will happen and Husky Nation will rise again!

Note to Deandre and Omar…..Do not put the ball on the floor….They will pick you clean.

I always say what does not kill you will make you stronger. Hang tough Huskies and play your game the Husky way, great defense brings great offense!

I am the biggest Uconn fan of them all but how can they let us in the Big East Tourney if we are not allowed in the NCAA? what if we win it?

If Ollie can’t beat this pathetic ACC team, he should be fired immediately.

I have to give Ollie credit for Amida Brimah. I hope this African knows how to read and write English because he could put us on academic probation again.

Tell me. What is the difference between The UNC Tar Heels who never made their players go to class but gave them B’s and B+’s and UConn who made them go to class and get low grades? Guess who is still going to their tournament and who is not.
