UConn vs. Loyola (Md): Setting Things Up at XL …

by Categorized: DeAndre Daniels, Kevin Ollie, Omar Calhoun, Phil Nolan, Ryan Boatright, Shabazz Napier, UConn men's basketball

HARTFORD – Sitting courtside at the XL Center, with the start of the UConn-Loyola game about half an hour away.

A few pregame tidbits….

Same lineup for the Huskies – Shabazz Napier, Ryan Boatright, Omar Calhoun, DeAndre Daniels and Phil Nolan.

Tonight’s officials: Wally Rutecki, Tim Nestor, Kevin Fehr.

Kevin Ollie was saying at practice, UConn would like to keep Nolan out foul trouble and one way of achieving that is for the guards to do a better job if preventing penetration. Nolan had four fouls in six minutes against Indiana.

Boatright and Napier were out early, about 4:30, working on free throws.

Was on The Bower Show earlier today … here’s a link to that.

Interesting thing to note for next season: Because of the way the calendar falls, the season cannot open before Nov. 14, so early season scheduling will be complicated, and ultimately crowded.

Loyola’s Denzel Brito and Shabazz Napier were teammates at Lawrence Academy. … It’s not too soon to start getting excited about the game against Florida at Gampel on Dec. 2. … UConn folks say 23 NBA scouts have already called for a seat, and the number is growing. There are a limited number of single tickets available, here.

Expecting a late-arriving crowd; traffic around Hartford is really horrendous. … But, traffic or no, Jim Calhoun is in his seat.
