UConn vs. Temple: Setting The Scene at XL

HARTFORD – Okay, we’re looking live at the XL Center, with UConn vs. Temple about 20 minutes from  the start.

I know the driving is treacherous out there, so if you are coming, take it slow.  Both  teams are on the floor now. Setting the scene for you here at XL:

UConn’s starting five tonight: Shabazz Napier, DeAndre Daniels, Niels Giffey, Lasan Kromah and Amida Brimah.

Ryan Boatright is not here. His string of 63 consecutive games comes to an end.

Terrence Samuel is not starting, but he should be prepared to play quality minutes off the bench.

Your officials tonight: Jim Burr, Bryan Kersey and Wally Rutecki.

Because of the snow, I can’t imagine a big crowd here tonight – wouldn’t be surprised if everyone catches a T-shirt. Just a handful of folks here now. The Huskies will have to generate their own electricity, with the help of the always solid UConn Pep Band.

The next few weeks will be a kind of grind-it-out phase of the season for the Huskies, anyway. Temple, Rutgers, Houston to start off. They have 13 games left, all AAC games, and most of them go into the category of games they’re “supposed” to win. What’s a good record from here on out? 10-3? There shouldn’t be a whole lot of drama between now and the league tournament in Memphis on March 12;  the Huskies need to just take care of business. That starts tonight against a Temple team that is 0-5 in the conference, though most of the game have been fairly close.
