WHAT TO WATCH FOR

Time for a promotion

The Associated Press Top 25 poll should be released just before tipoff and it’s expected that UConn will be No. 1 for the first time since the last week of the 2010-11 season.

Good for the Ducks

At one point, Oregon was down to a seven-player rotation and played without as many as five with starting experience. But many of those missing players are making their way back … Oregon leads the Pac-12 in blocked shots and free throw shooting and is averaging a league-leading 5.8 blocks per game. Alleyne broke the school and Pac-12 Conference rebounding record in UO’s double-overtime home loss to Portland State. In the same game, just her second as a collegiate player, Alleyne also matched the school record for points with 38. The 27 rebounds bettered the previous Pac-12 mark set nearly 20 years ago by UCLA’s Natalie Williams.

Next up – Notre Dame

The Huskies return home right after the game to begin preparation for their first meeting of the year with Notre Dame on Saturday at Gampel Pavilion in the Big East opener. Game time is 4 p.m. on CBS.

Quack Quack Quack. Duck Uconn Fans. If you don’t get the Pac 12 Network Duck U.

Muffet will have a difficult time restraining Uconn’s new Team. Stewie and Dolson will be up against a very good front line for ND. Diggins and ND’s Freshman Phenom and their Soph McBride will be a job to contain.
It will be a very good game.
Muffet will NOT be able to fluster KML this year. KML will be a major factor along with Banks, Stewie, and Dolson’

    1. OREGON on RADIO and STATS

If you don’t pay for TIC Radio. go to the GODucks.com site and schedule then to UConn Game and select either STATS or LIVE Audio. No Video but this is better than nothing.

Shall we give this a try.

Maybe Geno at it again can find more to complain about. Banks is amazing at driving, stealing, scoring and defense. Doty is a great floor leader and 3 ball scoring machine. Take your basketball expertise and –oh you know you’ve been told that before.

      1. Fairfield county fan

Thanks for this suggestion…we don’t even get WTIC in lower Ffld Co as signal is too weak. I’ll try this.

  2. Geno At It Again

Geno screwed up recruiting useless Jefferson. Banks should transfer mid season or at the end of the season. Geno’s love for Doty is disgusting. She SUCKS as bad as Buck.

    1. village idiot

I thought I was an Idiot until I read this one from Geno———. Tuck and Jefferson are extremely talented FRESHMEN. I’ll take these recruits over thousands of other.

    2. Newgirl2

Geno At It Again, if you have nothing good to say, then say nothing at all.

  3. Robert Gery

Well…quite interesting to hear from “Geno at it again” [too bad he doesn't have the courage to use his real name].

So for now I’ll just refer to him as “Asshole #1 or A#1] because we beat the top team in the nation and all he has is negative comments toward some of our players.

I’m a 1965 business school grad, started the pep band which now plays at both Mens’ and Womens’ games and 47 years later still love and watch both of our basketball teams [and even support them when they aren't doing that well... because that is when they need it most]

A#1 -you are what you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bob Gery

IF Geno, currently a H-O-F member with over 800 wins and 7 national championships is “at it again” we all should be pretty happy. Oh yeah, 5 straight Final Four trips. So now that we know he likely knows a bit more than “A#1″ even if he is playing Caroline more than he should, last time I checked this will be her final season and Banks then has a clearer role on the 13/14 edition. As opposed to transferring somewhere and sitting out a year. Remember also “A#1″ that Faris also is in her final season so when the next season opening bell rings UConn likely starts Dolson, Hartley, KML, Stewart, and quite possibly Tuck or Stokes. If, and I agree if on Jefferson that should she make progress through this year she could become the point keeping Bria where she fits a bit better at the “2″. SO A#1 either try to make some sense or go quietly into the night.

      1. Village Idiot

Bill–As usual you are right. Between you and me: Banks is NOW one of the best and getting better. Jefferson is a skilled point guard and lessor teams can lead the point–at years end she may replace Bri at point. Tuck is a big body with a credible 3 ball, by years end with experience may be a big help inside the same can be said of Stokes. Until Jefferson is ready Doty as hurt as she is will be the floor leader of Geno’s choice. Bria is a true 2.

  4. Redcee

Why do you people even bother to respond to Geno? He obviously doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground about basketball or talent. Just ignore him.

  5. buddy

I thought UConn went to bed with SNY to show the women’s games here. I bet it would have been on CPTV! Another administrative flub by Herbst/Manuel

    1. billnaples

Last year the UConn Rutgers game was not on CPTV. I wrote to them to ask the tough question….WHY NOT? Answer was simply enough. I think it was Verizon FIOS or something like that had the EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS (just like PAC12 TV does for the Oregon game) and CPTV could not come to an agreement with them for rights to televise it. I wrote to the Rutgers people and they were kind enough to direct me to the site where I could watch the game on an archived basis. I also asked them if they might have allowed CPTV the rights to a delayed broadcast and I recall the gentleman who wrote me back said he could not think of any reason why they would not have agreed to do just that. So stop blaming Herbst, Manuel, and SNY and write to Oregon and the PAC12.

        1. billnaples

No problem at all. And trust me when one of the outfits like CPTV or SNY or any other gives us double talks about what games they will air I will call them out on it. So where is the frustration with UConn coming from? Certainly can not be the product that Geno is putting on the floor, or for that matter Kevin Ollie is at 10 – 2, not bad for the best laid efforts of the NCAA folks (the president of U of H spcifically) to gut Calhoun’s legacy.

How does this site even allow a person with the screen name of lick my asshole on this blog @ all..I don’t understand it..John please don’t allow this stuff to go on.or have someone stop it if you are not around to to this

  7. ucwbb #1 fan

Banks is becoming an amazing player. However, Geno is being Geno… aka a smart coach. A few bad games may cause Banks to take a step backwards in her progress. Her role is too important this year as a bench player for that to happen. Geno is giving Banks minutes which allow her to excel and keep up her confidence. She deserves to start at UCONN… just not yet. She will be an amazing player, but right now, she is still learning how to be better than she was yesterday. Congrats UCONN on an amazing win! Looking forward to the future of our players.

  8. FREDDYKOOL

FREDDYKOOL: THE WHOLE WOMANS BASKETBALL NATION PICKED STANFORD NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE COUNTRY, THE CREAM OF THE LOT, THE BEST SO BE IT AT THE TOP, VEGAS HAD THE CARDNIL 7 POINT FAVORITE AT THERE HOME GYM WITH A PACKED HOUSE, HERE COMES GENO, COACHES AND TEAM AND WHAT DO THEY DO? THEY UCONN COMES IN AND HANDS S.C. THE WORST WHIPPING IN 30 YEARS AND OUR BELOVED GALS MAYBE PLAYED ONE OF THE GREATEST GAMES OF ALL TIME AND THEN I COME ON HERE AND I HERE ALL THESE MORONS SAY THIS PLAYER STINKS, GENO DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING, THIS PLAYER SHOULD LEAVE, AS A STAUNCH MEMBER OF UCONN NATION I SAY TO YOU AFTER WE JUST MAYBE PLAYED AN ALMOST PERFECT GAME, DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE CHARTER OAK BRIDGE IS???????? U REALLY PISS ME OFF.

        1. billnaples

Freddy, no sense talking at the senseless. Their inflated sense of self worth is a drain on the earth’s eco system. Always willing to listen and debate a realistic question that might be why is Banks not getting the time that many think her talent has earned. If it is not an injury is Geno making her sit up and take notice of something? I don’t know but if I were a betting man I would probably give odds on that. You don’t average nearly 34 wins a year for the past 18 years by being stupid.

  9. just dad

hey, I had to get a sports package from Comcast to watch Saturday’s game, still better than have to listen or watch them asking for donations every time they have a time out

    1. Big Jim

If you have Comcast, you can watch today’s game on channel 712.

If you habe Dish Network, you can watch it on channel 413.

An invite would be appreciated? :)

  10. martin fallon

Hey, hey, let’s all pull together and get ready for ND, the best all around matchup for the Huskies. You think Stanford was tough, the ghosts of beefy guards are practicing hard in South Bend.

Twas a Coupla Nights after Christmas 2012

Twas a coupla nights after Christmas 2012, when all through Stanford’s house?
Hardly a UCONN fan was heard over Stanford’s “Victory or else!”
Steph, Bria, and steeple-tall Stewie hung by Chiney with care,?
Sporting steely eyes that declared No. 1 would soon be theirs.??

Kaleena rushed to plunk in a three,?
While Stanford stumbled with shaking knee.?
Kelly running hard, and Caroline with her snap,?
Woke up Stanford’s brains from their long winter’s nap.??

When down the right side there arose such a clatter,
as Stewie lept over a Cardinal wondering what’s the freakin’ matter???
Away to the fast break flew Bria and Kaleena in a flash,?
Playing three shots like pinball, turning money shots into cash.??

By now the Cardinals appeared dazed, frozen like deer don’t ya know,?
And still so many more weapons did UCONN have to bestow.?
When, what to Stanford fans’ wondering eyes should appear,?
But a whirling Stephanie Dolson, putting her foes into fear!?

Then little old Coach Geno, so lively and quick,
Smiled ever so slightly, as his guys roll and pick,
While more rapid than eagles our strong UCONN women came,?
And Coach whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!??

“Now Kelly! now, Stewie! now, Jefferson and Tuck!?
On, Banks! On, Kiah! on, on KLM and Heather Buck!?
To the top of the key! to the top of the rim!?
Now dash away! Dash away! after each shot goes in!”??

As all streaks before a steel defense fly,?
When they meet with UCONN, even soaring Cardinal birds die.?
So up to the Maple house-top the Huskie women they flew,?
With a sleigh full of game, plus Chris, Shea, and Coach Geno, too.??

And then, in a twinkling, Cardinal fans stared in disbelief,
At UCONN women prancing and dancing (the silenced crowd a nice relief).
As Stanford froze with despair, and were looking all around,?
Three Huskies spotted Chiney and cornered her with a bound.??

Geno was dressed dapper as always, from his head to his foot,?
But still ran smack into a Technical, no matter his chistled look.
A bundle of Weapons he had flung on his back,?
He looked like a Pro with his defense-magic pack.??

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!?
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!?
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,?
And a tiny smile escaped, but Geno couldn’t let that show.??

The stump of a compliment he held tight in his teeth,?
But the aura of the smile encircled his head like a wreath.?
He had a broad face and a little round belly,?
That shook when he laughed, amusing Steph and Kelly!??

He was cajoling and pressing, a right jolly old elf,?
UCONN women hung on his advice, sure of themself!?
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,?
Soon gave Stanford notice they had lots to dread.??

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,?
And watched the game unfold, then turned with a jerk.?
Laying one finger aside of his nose,?
After a respectful nod to Tara, up the charts his team rose!??

He sprang to his feet, to his team gave a whistle,?
And away they all flew, leaving Stanford to bristle.?
But I heard the team exclaim, ‘ere they drove out of sight,?
“Merry Christmas to our fans, we did, indeed, have a good night!”
