Recee’ Caldwell, Like ACC, Spurns UConn
I would like to thank the little birdie who chirped this in my direction last week:
“Recee’ Caldwell is going to UCLA. It’s between UCLA and UConn and the fact that she’s ready to announce now tells me its UCLA.”
That little birdie was dead right.
Caldwell, currently a Texan, is going home to California, where she is from. Goodbye, good luck and UConn moves on, although UCLA may not get the access it was given this summer to Geno’s practices if this piracy continues (just joking, folks).

UCLA watching Geno’s practices is the reason I am seeing them as attacking strong on defense and very very fast. They look like UConn on Steriods. They use 2 or 3 people at every position .
None of the current Recruits to other teams did not SPURN Uconn, they CHOSE another (less successful) school. The ACC did not SPURN UConn–Uconn does not (at this time) have what the ACC wants. UConn was NOT REJECTED–they were not ACCEPtED. POSITIVE APPROACH, AND MORE TRUTHFUL.

NO POINT JOHN IN MAKING THINKS LOOK WORSE THAN THEY ARE–THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE ONLY ON THE EVENING NEWS ON TV. PAPER MEDIA (AT LEAST THE COURANT) HAS BEEN MORE ON THE SIDE OF TRUTH.
Good point ‘Idiot.’ I dislike the headlines in the print media because they always smack of sensationalism and not good journalism. Geno can’t capture every great recruit that’s on the market yet UCONN fans wail every time a top player goes somewhere else. C’mon folks, there are a lot of top Universities out there that are trying to build a strong program and have a lot to offer. Why choose UCONN and take the risk of sitting on the bench behind a group of All-American players when I can move right into the starting lineup at another school? It all depends on each recruit’s motivation. Many of the current UCONN athletes chose UCONN because they wanted to play with the best, be challenged, and be coached by the best. Those lacking that motivation don’t choose to play for UCONN or have bailed-out and gone elsewhere. Being able to play near home also appeals to many recruits. Geno will always get his share of the best…and those who come to UCONN will reap the benefits.
The Huskies don’t need any more small guards; the team is loaded for the futue. What Geno needs to bring in in 2014 is a big girl to replace Dolson as Stokes moves into the starting line-up. Good luck however you spell your name at UCLA.
There are of course needs and then there is available. Here are some facts, at least as represented by HoopGurlz. There are only two players in the top 100 rated girls who have yet to commit to a school for 2013, Smail & Armbrister, both 6 ft. wing players. UConn’s lone incoing for ’13 is Chong, a 5’9″ guard. Going forward to the 2014 incoming class only the top 25 are ranked and of those 5 girls have indicated an early commitment which includes Ekmark, a 6′ guard who has I believe signed her letter to UConn. Of the remaining 20 ranked girls there are just four who are real “bigs” at 6’3″ or better. So unless Geno & Chris can find a diamond in the rough (aka Tina Charles or Stef Dolson)the pickiings are slim. Not a big but maybe interested in UConn of course is Sierra Calhoun with her brother currently on the Men’s team. Never can tell. Might be class of ’15 before they get a line on another true center.
And just an aside thought, you are projecteing Stokes as a starter for 13/14 or 14/15? I think I am reading the latter and without any more talented players being introduced from Chong, Ekmark, and any other recruits I think it is still a question. 14/15 could have Lewis, Stewart, and Tuck up front with Jefferson and Banks in the back court. Guess we’ll have to wait awhile on this topic.
