Guard Gabby Williams, perhaps the jewel of the Class of 2014 recruiting class, has suffered a partial tear to the ACL and will require season-ending surgery.
Geno Auriemma made the announcement Thursday night on his Coaches Show on WTIC-AM. Auriemma said she should be ready to go next season. Williams, who plays for Reed High (Nev.), left a game on Jan. 21 after a fall in a game against Spanish Springs. She played in two games last weekend while waiting for test results. She suffered a serious injury to the same knee [right] early last season and missed the majority of it.
Williams had just been named to the McDonald’s High School All-American game.
Auriemma also said that Morgan Tuck had her surgery on Thursday, but described it as micro-fracture, which is a quite different procedure that cartilage transfer Tuck described last week. She will not be able to do any physical activity of six months.
