The No. 3 Huskies (14-1, 2-1) are likely going to have Bria Hartley in the lineup Tuesday against Louisville at the XL Center.

The junior reinjured her chronically cranky left ankle in the opening minutes of Saturday’s win at Marquette and played just five minutes.

“But I am doing all right. My first thought was like, ‘you are kidding me?,’ I was going for the ball and just happened to land on someone’s foot,” Hartley said Monday. “And my ankle just kind of turned in. It was painful at the time and it will likely still hurt some. But I can play through it.”

Hartley did not practice Monday, aside from doing some individual drills. But Geno Auriemma said if she gets through Tuesday’s pregame shoot-around in good shape, the expects her to play.

The same can not be said for freshman Breanna Stewart. She hurt her ankle last Friday when she landed on Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis’ foot and missed the Marquette game. Auriemma said unless Stewart shows marked improvement quickly she isn’t likely to play.

7 Responses to Bria Hartley Likely To Play Tuesday; Stewart Doubtful

    Thank you 3X3 basketball!

    Texas—3×3 was the event.

Stewart is the important injured one. She will be needed in the Duke game. Her mobility, height, and sure shoot will be needed. If Stoke and Tuck step up to the challenge maybe Stewart will not be needed as much as I anticipate. Banks, Faris and Jefferson along with a few minutes from Doty should make up for the injured Hartley.

  3. It’s good that Bria will be available for the Louisville game. I’ve seen Lu-a-ville play once this year. The sisters are good but that’s all I know of them. They have played UConn well and tough. I expect no less from them on Tuesday. Don’t think this will be without a battle.

Louisville is capable of beating a 12 of 41 shooting UConn team. Georgetown was not.
