Berkshire Hills Bancorp, Inc. has appointed Geno Auriemma as a Director of the Company and of Berkshire Bank, America’s Most Exciting Bank.(SM) Additionally, Berkshire Bank intends to enter into a marketing arrangement with Auriemma, subject to final approval, whereby he will serve as a spokesperson for the Bank.
Auriemma, age 58, has been head coach of the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team since 1986, is a seven-time national Coach of the Year and has won or shared the Big East Coach of the Year award eight times. He has served as President of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. A successful businessman and accomplished author and speaker, he is involved in numerous regional and state charitable and educational efforts and the national V Foundation for Cancer Research. Director Auriemma brings his skills in team building, organizational management and communication to Berkshire, as well as experience with the banking industry in Berkshire’s newest market, following the merger of the Connecticut Bank and Trust Company with Berkshire Bank on April 20, 2012.
Berkshire President and CEO Michael P. Daly stated, “We are delighted that Geno Auriemma is joining our Board of Directors. His professional track record is unparalleled and he has a disciplined focus on team building and success factors that will contribute to the further growth and accomplishments of our Company. He understands the opportunities and challenges facing our industry, and brings important perspectives on the greater Connecticut region and on the regional and national forces affecting our markets. In addition to joining Berkshire’s Board, Auriemma intends to serve as a spokesperson for Berkshire Bank. According to Daly, Auriemma is a perfect fit for that role as he understands that having the right people, energy and attitude is what gives you the competitive edge. “At Berkshire Bank we want customers to have a winning feeling every time they walk through our doors. We want them to succeed so that they can enjoy what’s really exciting in their lives.’’

And in the mean time, UConn has ZERO recruits for 2013. Only thing left are the Kerns, Bucks, Engelns, and Johnsons. Way to go, Geno. UConn’s zero class of 2013 averages out the great class of 2012. There will be a HUGE gap to fill when Stewart, Tuck, and Jefferson graduate. Assuming of course they do not TRANSFER because they are tired of Auriemma throwing them under the bus.

Stewart, Tuck, and Jefferson WILL be Freshmen this year. And, UCONN will win 3 National Championships during their four years.
The players that chose not to come to UCONN made that choice because they didn’t think they could start over Lewis, Dolson, Stewart, Tuck and Jefferson for at least two years.
So Bob, I recommend that you become a Tennessee Fan, they would really like you.

Big Jim is “so confident” that UConn will win 3 NC in the next 4 seasons that he quit his job, sold his house, and spent all the money on lottery tickets. That is what a dumb ass who “knows a sure thing” would do.
I think Stweart, Tuck, Dolson, and Jefferson should sign agreements where they won’t play more than 5 minutes each in any given game–that way those being recruited will see that they will be getting playing time at UConn.
It’s only smart recruiting by turning away super great players so that you won’t offend some possible recruit. Do you people read what you write.
This is about Geno being on the Board of Directors of Bankcorp. Smart move Geno, unlike Calhoun, you are getting you dollar in order so you may retire. Is it only by chance one of your “co workers ” will be Mike Dailey (Daly)??? They all came from O’Daly in the “ole Sod”.
Do anyone think that Auriemma is wearing too many hats for someone who is getting paid to win UConn’s 8th NC? FIBA WC and the Olympics have been a huge distraction. And this latest board of directors thing also shows Auriemma is not focused on UConn.
I don’t see the “drive” in Auriemma to win the 8th. I see a coach with 7 NCs and nothing left to prove in WCBB. I see a coach who “admits to not knowing” how to get thru to this generation. I see a coach who has a lfetime job “waiting for him in his backyard” after he leaves UConn – sooner than later.
It cannot be good that UConn is left trying to recruit “only 3 players now”, while Auriemma is spending 100% of his time on the Olympics.
Some fans are confident that UConn will land 2 of the remaining 3 recruit targets, even though these 3 players know they are all UConn’s “2nd choices”.

Some fans are confident about UConn’s 2014 recruit targets, despite UConn’s recent history:
2008 – world class Xfer blunder (Auriemma knew about EDD’s sister) with “No backup” plan whatsoever.
2009 – another blunder with only 1 because 2008 was “supposed to be a sure thing”.
2010 – 2 Xfers and 1 who fans know “never had a chance” to play.
2011 – 1.5 players and 1.5 with no playing time.
2012 – so over hyped that Auriemma already bragged about an “undefeated 8th NC”. (WCBB plays the games for a reason)
2013 – 0 for 3, which probably has to do with the “sure thing” of 2012.
In 2010, 4 stood around and watched Maya, while the rest were glued to the bench. In 2011, Auriemma’s screaming and throwing at least 3 of his 6.5 players under the bus yielded a team that literally “panicked and choked” in all 5 losses.
Getting to the Final Four is still too easy for UConn and Stanford because the landscape is “4 and everyone else” after it was “2 and everyone else”. If the FF is what “satisfies” Auriemma, then UConn will never win an 8th. He seems satisfied to me with his recruiting.
