Since the Connecticut Sun were eliminated from playoff race in the WNBA’s Eastern Conference last week in Phoenix, there has been plenty of time for reflection about the worst season in team history.
Friday brought one more aggravation when the Sun announced that center Tina Charles, the WNBA’s reigning MVP, will miss the last five games of the season to rest injuries.
“I’m just shutting it down, as far as my body goes,” Charles said. “I have had some nagging things and now we’re out the playoff hunt. So it’s best I just take care of my body.”
Charles ends the season as the Sun’s high scorer (18.0) and rebounder (10.1). She had 17 double-doubles. The Sun are not without Charles, Kelly Faris and Allie Hightower for the remainder of the season. And Kara Lawson has not played since July 19.
