CNN’s Anderson Cooper Nosing Around Geno Case
It’s been a while since we’ve addressed the pending employee discrimination suit filed by Kelley Hardwick against Geno Auriemma, the NBA and USA Basketball . There haven’t been many new developments. Nor has there been any discussion about it nationally.
Well, that was supposed to change on CNN’s Anderson Cooper show, which airs from 8-9 p.m.
There was apparently going to be a segment on the case on a subsequent show, although the show’s website is promoting something on pastors and snakes tonight. That doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with Geno.
Neither UConn or USA Basketball have been contacted by the show for comment and if they did it would likely not be forthcoming.
Geno is in Turkey right now with USA Basketball officials scouting.
Randy McLaughlin, Hardwick’s attorney, would not confirm or deny that he or his client would appear on the show.
Well, the story didn’t make the cut. Not even a whisper.

Perhaps it’s too quiet for the plaintiff and her lawyer, particularly if they’re looking for a settlement. The leverage of the impending Olympics, to the extent it might exist, is fading with each passing day. Geno and USAB are no doubt content for this matter to quietly proceed through the legal process right now. They still have a couple of weeks to file their answers (perhaps motions to dismiss) and if the case survives it’ll be a year or two before a trial.
All quiet on the lawsuit front may not serve the plaintiff’s interest.
FREDDYKOOL: I HOPE THIS WOMEN (LADY) IS NOT TRYING TO MAKE OUT A MOUNTAIN OUT OF A MOLEHILL, QUITE FOR SO LONG MAKES ME WONDER?????? AND ANDERSON ONE OF THE HO’S OF ALL NEWS PEOPLE……
It’s must have been at least 30 seconds since John’s last “update” on this non story. Why is this reporter?? so interested in keeping this apparent character assassination as if it was a general interest story?? NOT. If Geno is smart (and no one has ever called him dumb) he will keep electronic copies of all these NON Stories and use them as the basis of a very possible enriching law suit.
If Cooper was something normally advertised on this site, that’s one thing. But when it’s only use is to keep a story that has no legal merit going–smack of “we’ll get the SOB”. Let Cooper get viewers (if they can find him) on their own.
Big question what is the Courant really trying to accomplish with all these keep the pot boiling non stories?? But that is just MY opinion (legally said).
Hey genosguy@yahoo.com….
thank you for inventing journalism
JC seems like there was another great legal mind from your area — Thomas Jefferson and maybe Madison–your comment like your last dissertation about the legal aspect of this non issue–was very informative. What you didn’t address was the what the Media was up to in trying to keep this apparent dead story alive. As you pointed out it is only important for the Security Guard and the lawyers to keep this alive. Does it not appear that they are working against the interest of UConn and Geno in this matter? Why would they do this when the story is all but dead?? One would think that a home state news wouldn’t be so interested in helping the non homey side of this.
I’d appreciate your view on this.
News is news. My opinion is that the plaintiff’s lawyer will continue to seek publicity in hopes for a settlement before his client is thrown out of court (re:Auriemma only). But I prefer that John A. doesn’t fall into the “homey” news category. Do I think that “Geno not to be on CNN” is a story? No. But the pressures of the homey community to write something about the Huskies every day is strong. Given the tenuous nature of the news industry, you gotta feed what is keeping you here. Soon, the Olympics will be here, and I hope John A. will cover them. He’s one of the best, let’s cut him some slack.

The Italian novelist– Italo Calvino, tells a story about a man- a Mr. Palomar, at the zoo. Having visited the Bacelona zoo, Mr Paloma came to the animal building where he came upon the great Albino ape (“Copito de Nieve- Snowflake”). Mr Paloma saw that Snoflake arm-paws are pressing a rubber tire against his chest. “In the enormous void of his hours, Copito de Nieve never abandons the tire. What can this object be for him? A toy? A fetish? A talisman?” Leaving the zoo, Mr Palomar cannot get the albino gorilla out of his thoughts. He tries to talk about him to people he meets, but he cannot make them interested. At nights, during the hours of insomina and during his brief dreams, the great ape appear to him. “Just as the gorilla has his tire, which serves as tangible support for a raving, wordless speech,” and Mr Palomar thinks he has this image of a great albino ape,so does J.Altavilla has his own nonstories (Geno’s lawsuit, Tenn/Pat)and looking/reading (at) them you would not say that much could be derived from them. And yet, what more than an empty circle, can contain all the symbols you might want to attribute to it? Well J.Altavilla, “we all turn in our hands an old, empty tire through which we try to reach some final meaning which words cannot achieve. But there are many old and new tires out-there to be had, stop being like Copito de Nieve (SMILE)– to give the gorilla his due, his old tire was an artifact of human production, alien to him, lacking any symbolic potentiality, maybe(?)- snif the first daybreak of culture and rise yourself from that long biological night that you are fencing yourself and US (at least me). Good summer. By the way, might you have something to say about the weekly pickup games?
What a load of rubbish comments. Altavilla is “RIGHTFULLY” reporting every snippet of information about this case.
AND, by reporting this “Anderson Cooper” initial interest followed by a “nothing there” dropping of interest….SERVES to illustrate exactly what a “non story” it truly is.
Thank you John, great integrity and good reporting.
JC–what do you think of John Alavilla publishing the email address of a commentor with whom he does not agree–is this the new way this commenting going to be used from now on.
Are we commentors not right in expecting that to be published in the heading of the story–which John expect to receive comments. Punishment. Is that the rule now JOHN?? You don’t agree with a comment so you PUNISH the commentor by hoping people will write to the email site of the commentor//
Is this the way the Courant is going to operate now.
john I advise you to immediately take that email address off of any and all place you placed it. No a threat john just a fact.
You don’t like that your running commentary on a non story has potential legal repercussions???
Do you believe —-guy means any coach?? How ignorant can you be??
Calm down there, “Slippery Slope”, this is a blog. If you want news, go buy a newspaper.
Excuse me Frank or “Slippery Slope” or whatever your name is, why dont you find another blog to comment on.
Big deal. If it’s on CNN, nobody will see it.
A gorilla named Snowflake?? And you are complaining about how JA writes? Seriously?
Thanks for the news John. The summer would be borig without you.
CNN and Cooper did not air a story because there really isn’t a story worth airing……Without any eyewitnesses , pictures , or video , its a she said–he said.
And let’s give Geno the benefit of the doubt , I think he has better taste than a Kelley Hardwick. Have you seen Hardwick? We ain’t talking about no Kim Kardashian or Beyonce’ here.
I’d rather kiss LeBron James than this Hardwick chick.
If I were a woman and unemployed I would sue my male neighbor for looking at me.
Bridget B, there are of course people like me who do not care to hear more about Pat & Geno and Geno & Hardwick. The former because the Schools have moved on. Notre Dame and Stanford are our rivals– we may not win 2 of 2 from @ of these schools again. The latter– Geno Hardwick– because it’s legal and can only be resolved in the court of law. And I truly believe that we do ourselves a disservice by putting it out in this discussion format. What have I really learned from it all? “That I’d rather kiss LeBron James than this Hardwick chick”? These sort of things deteriorate quickly into all forms of ‘isms’ And soon only the true believers are left (to clean-up).
As for JA, no one, including me, isn’t glad for his service. I suspect that he doesn’t (shouldn’t) need defending.(He has a steal heart and head: otherwise he wouldn’t be doing this for so long. And the 2publishing of an address must have been nothing more than a momentary slip of an otherwise fine mind) Yes, he does get pushed around sometimes, but the fact that we always come back reading and kicking him and calling him ‘Snoflake’ suggest that there is more to be had than not. JA is OUR (my) old tire.
JA, my ‘old tire’ good story about CD. You do read and understand my comments. See what you can do when you are not out playing Don Juan with Hardwick in the closet! Or giving “slippery slope” the slip? Be careful, he too might be out for money- you never know, do you. And he has me as a witness. We have a deal– 50 – 50. Willing to settle out of court, one month of your huge salary will do just find. O’K, just call off Bridget and we will drop the suit.
I’d rather read about Geno’s recruiting trip to Turkey. Who’s the player?
Simply desire to say your article is as astonishing. The clarity on your put up is just spectacular and that i can assume you are knowledgeable on this subject. Well together with your permission let me to take hold of your feed to keep updated with forthcoming post. Thanks 1,000,000 and please continue the enjoyable work.
I do agree with all of the ideas you’ve presented on your post. They’re very convincing and can definitely work. Still, the posts are very short for beginners. Could you please prolong them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
