My first reaction as I read Jacob’s article is “who gives a crap!” Jeff comes across as a bitter man as he has in many of his articles about Calhoun in recent years. He obviously has a bug up his backside that just won’t go away. Calhoun’s compensation is between the coach and the University. Yes, it’s a lot of $$ however he’s only one of many elite coaches in the same situation. Jeff is really going to miss Calhoun, though as long as he’s on the UCONN payroll, he’ll be fair game for Mr. Jacobs to vent!
Mike McManus–Jim Calhoun is a STATE employee and will remain so as long as he is paid by the state. So, his salary is NOT between him and the University. It is between him and his employers–guess who that is?? The taxpayers of Connecticut. FAIR GAME!!!!
“You’re splitting hairs Government of the People.” Who in State Government made the decision on salaries of the coaching staff other than the AD and the President, the Governor or the State Senate? UCONN is the State University and is certainly within its rights to make those decisions.
Jeff Jacobs is a disgrace to journalism. His columns are simply a platform for his personal petty, pompous and asinine ideas. Calhoun seems to be a favorite target for this insufferable fool. I am amazed that Jacobs can hold a job. He should have been fired years ago.
I’m surprised – although in Jeff Jacobs case, I shouldn’t be. I don’t particularly care for Jim Calhoun; BUT, this is seriously in poor taste.
On the one hand Jacobs complains about his Salary and retirement package and scoffs at the idea that he has raised UCONN to top national prominence. Along the way bringing in millions of dollars each year.
Then, he uses the other side of the argument to prove his point i.e. look how much Calhoun is costing UCONN because they can’t complete in this years Big East and NCAA tournaments.
Despicable!
