Ekmark’s St. Mary’s Team Loses To Mater Dei
Karlie Samuelson, a former UConn recruit and the Stanford-bound senior, scored 18 points (8 of 11) to help Mater Dei defeat No. 1 St. Mary’s of Phoenix Friday night in the semifinals of the Joe Smith Divison of the Nike Tournament of Champions.
The Monarchs (11-0), ranked No. 3 in the nation by USA Today, snapped No. 1 St. Mary’s 48-game winning streak and advanced to Saturday’s Division E final against Riverdale Baptist of Upper Marboro, Md.
Mater Dei, the alma mater of UConn sophomore Kalana Mosqueda-Lewis, raced to a 17-point lead, getting seven first-half 3-pointers and timely defense. St. Mary’s junior Courtney Ekmark (a UConn commit for 2014) came into Friday’s showdown as one of Arizona’s premier scorers, but was to 16 points on 6-of-16 shooting.

It would be great to get more info like this. But unfortunately for the 2nd time in 4 years, Geno and CD sucked at recruiting. Now with the Catholic 7 leaving the Big East, there is even less reason for athletes to sign with any UCon sport.
OK NRA–You are an 18 year old who loves playing basketball, you’ve got options of going to 5 top teams. You look at Stanford–oh, it’s close to home and Uconn has 3 top Soph’s and 3 top freshmen and two top Juniors–WHEN AM I GOING TO PLAY?? What would be your choice???
The West Coast teams typically drew recruits from the Western half of the country. But with UConn new SNY Nation wide coverage–recruiting will get them from the far west.
With Stokes, Tuck and Doty hurting (and maybe out)then add Dolson twisted her ankle, Stewart has hip and back bruses—and Uconn is playing Stanford in the Maple (horrible) arena. Homie type refs (from memory)–be prepared for the first loss of the year. If they all were healthy it would still be an iffy outcome. But if the refs don’t make this a Penn st game–it should be fun to watch.
So Geno and CD sucked in recruiting…considering the history of the UCONN program and the outstanding accomplishments, I would suggest that your comment is pretty juvenile and asinine.
NRA I do not agree with your post. Uconn WBB has not been a recruiting issue because of the Big East. Geno has always been a National recruiting Program. The seven sisters will not effect Geno. The MBB maybe a different issue.
“2nd time in 4 years” is an accurate statement. Faris and Chong.
