Usually its the media that adds artificial hype in the advance of games.

Geno Auriemma likes to refer to the effort as promoting “This year’s Game of the Century.”

Not this time. It was Geno who put his best Vince McMahon spin on tonight’s big tilt against Colgate the XL Center (7 p.m., SNY).

“It wasn’t until after the fact [the scheduling of the game] did I realize it would be a Herbst v. Herbst WWE Smackdown,” Auriemma said.

“Susan’s brother [Jeffrey] is the president [first year] of Colgate. I don’t know if that [a wrestling match] will be the halftime show.

“I’ve already gotten more than a few memos from our fearless leader [UConn president Susan Herbst] about what she wants the score to be. I’m under a little bit of pressure. It will be interesting. You never know. Susan may leave in a couple of years and he [Jeffrey Herbst] may be the next president of UConn.

“I don’t want to make him mad at me before we even start.”

The “Herbst vs. Herbst” angle makes it interesting; other than that, it’s going to be a real snoozefest in terms of a competitive game. But I’ll still watch!
    GO HUSKIES!!!

  3. The Idiot that I am, I always find something about the game that keeps it interesting. When the score it lobbsided I focus on Kelly, or Doty or Stokes and watch their stats. I get a chance to see Buck play. When she makes a great play, or rebound or pass at the right time. I’m pleased. When she pushes the other teams center around–I love it. I’ve cheered for Heather Buck for 4 years because she Connecticuts OWN and I want her to succeed. My father taught me that success isn’t about MONEY–it’s about people liking you and doing good for other people–IN THAT MODE Heather Buck is a great success.

Colgate President Jeffrey Herbst was appointed in 2010. This is not his first year. http://www.colgate.edu/about/people-of-colgate/president-jeffrey-herbst
