If you want to read a tremendous story about the struggles and gifts that former UConn player Cassie Kerns has dealt with in her young life, I would highly recommend this story about her from the Indianapolis Star.

She is a remarkable young woman, as you will see.

She was Not an elite college athlete at UConn.
Neither is Dolson, Buck, Engeln, Johnson, etc.
Maya and Tina were elite college athletes at UConn.
Cam Newton and RGIII were elite college athletes.

I had great hopes for Cassie. Her potential was big. She got a lot of play during cleanup time, ala Engeln. UConn Team personnel thought a lot of her, off the court. They were impressed by her artistic bent.
The article took great liberties with the UConn association. Bulimic and depression are a very common poison with female teens. But why a college player would feel the need to deprive her body of fuel–why? I believe she enhanced her artistic talents at UConn. I wish her well and tell her I was the one shouting –”shoot Cassie” Shoot!!! From the day she arrived I liked her. All the best Cassie. Me and UConn world want only the best for you. Another great post by the Courant.

JUST SAYING: DO U KNOW WHERE THE CHARTER OAK BRIDGE IS?

  4. BridgetB says:

Let’s face it, anyone on a full athletic scholarship is elite compared to all of us who are reading the Courant rather than making headlines of our own. Most NCAA athletes go on to normal jobs and have normal problems. I hope you find yourself and are happy in the life you are pursuing, Cassie.

  5. FREDDYKOOL—JUST EXACTLY WHERE IS THAT BRIDGE????

BridgetB—-Scholarships are given to many players (male and female) that are not “elite”. The number of “elite’ players is very very small. DT, Sue, Maya, Tina,KML, Parker, Fowles, Catchings, Stewart, Diggins, are all elite. An Elite player carries their teams–makes the really big plays, wins the losing game. All those above mentioned have done that. Cassie as nice a kid and person she is/was was a bit under Average College talented–her height made put her on the Radar of the Guru’s. I love Cassie–wanted her to succeed, but she didn’t have the desire for BB–arts, yes. I give her kudo’s for knowing what was her passion.

    Ever hear of Kelly Faris?

  9. Lazy Dead—-2 months ago there was a piece on Kelly. I agree she deserves what ever press she gets. I just love her–her grit, her ability, her intensity, her coachability.
    Yep Kelly is great.
