  1. final four foreseer

there is no way uconn is beating nd this postseason.
i foresee a final four with uconn nowhere in sight.
but IF they do make it i hope they’re on the same bracket side as nd, because i’d rather see them loose to them in the semi than the national championship.

    1. Ellen Ellen

John Atavilla–You are full of CRAP!! ND has good players, true. Diggins is a better point guard than anyone on UConn team. But Uconn had the game one until McBride got a great FREAK bounce. No bounce, game over, Uconn wins. ON Notre Dames Home court.
Jefferson–Dribbled up the floor, passed the ball to Hartley with two ND players within 2 feet of her and 2 feet of Hartley–FRESHMAN mistake. Doty was not expected to make those mistakes–that’s why Geno used her, but she was terrible, could Jeff have been better–NO NO NO not in pressure she has never seen like that before.
Notre Dame will be the dominant team when Baylor is gone–complete an utter BS. The Kids Stewart, Mo Jeff, Tuck and Chong along with Dolson, Stokes, Hartley will take them twice next year. And if you have a few bucks you’d like to lose, I bet Uconn beat ND in the BE and if they meet them in the NCAA.
Geno is tired, true. But mostly with the constant criticsm and assinine questions in post game questioning.

Were you trying to get something going, because I can’t believe you actually believe those awful comments.
Stokes and Buck are not ready for prime time, not yet stokes will be good, she needs time and motivation.

  2. Jake

Geno tired and the road show is getting stale. Heather Buck should have played more.

    1. Get Real.

Muffet is playing Geno’s play book. Players missed assignments for UConn, They turned over the ball. But at end of regulation with 1 minute to go Uconn was up by 6. Missed foul shots. McBrides LUCKLY,VERY LUCKY, 3 point shot that bounced off the front of the rim up and in. Lucky. Uconn could have should have won that. KML being away from the ball inbounding–was unbelievable. Freshmen at crunch time should never touch the ball.
3 over times on ND’s floor. How much better can ND be to allow that with two of Uconn starting 5 on the bench. Forget annointing ND the next champ, they won’t be this year or next.
Uconn will win the Big East tourney. Jeff, Stewie, Tuck, Stokes will gain experience this year and Uconn will be in the Finals with Baylor–but Baylor will win, Maybe..

        1. Captain Pine

To I Am – Are you kidding? Stanford was lucky not to lose that game by 30. Great defense all game + Maya Moore’s shooting in 2nd half was the difference.

          1. Captain Pine says

UConn won by 6 after blowing a 16 point lead in 2 minutes. 30 more seconds the game goes into OT.

      1. Bracchus

Your observation on Muffet playing Geno’s playbook is right on. She attacks and traps on defense. UCONN does it all the time. That, to me is the one big advantage ND has had. They have no fear of UCONN. That is how they won the gam in Hartford, and that is how they won in South Bend. The just keep plugging and two of their players really have the killer instinct-Diggins and McBride. UCONN does not have that kind of floor leadership. Lewis and McBride play hard in every game, but they don’t seem to be very vocal. Dolson is interesting. A lot of turnovers in this last game. She has to be careful about putting the ball on the floor against good teams. Her outside shot is money though. That is why I would play Stokes with Dolson for periods of time and possibly play Stewart with them. What that would do on defense is shut down the middle. No layups and difficult penetration. On offense, Dolson could come to the top of the key and take her shot with Stewart and Stokes under the basket. Doesn’t have to be the entire game, but at different points. Maybe when ND goes on a run.

  3. Raygan

I don’t credit ND with causing 35 turnovers.Come on coaching staff. Open your eyes.

  4. EDD Senior Night

Agree 100% with this from JA Chat today: Geno’s continuing bravado act to prove he’s “Geno” has worn thin. The players are mentally fried from his mind games

  5. David Schulz

    Next season no Faris.
    Season after that no Dolson.
10 loss season coming up in 2014-15.
    Geno is so overrated.
0-3 in Final Fours against Muffet.
1-6 against Muffet in last 2+ years.

    1. JR

And yet Muffet’s team was never a threat to Baylor in the title game and lost to a beatable A&M team the previous year despite basically playing a home game.

    2. Bracchus

I would not say that he is overrated given his accomplishments. He may have just run into a coach who has figured him out and has the palyers to beat him.

Let’s face it, when UCONN was winning everything all of the time, the parity in the women’s game was woefully lacking. Even now, when you get past the first 5 or 6 teams, things start to thin out a bit. I suyspect that as female players improve and other schools recruit the biiger names, more parity will set in and it will more difficult for any one school to dominate. Do you really think that UCLA could when as many championships in a row as they did today?

  6. GerryG

I am such an a** hole because I think everyone is wrong and I am always right.

  7. FREDDYKOOL

FREDDYKOOL: WOW! WOW! WOW! LISTEN TO YOU ALL. IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF……..WE LOST BY 1 POINT AND A FEW MISTAKES IN THIS MID SEASON GAME, THE TWO LOSSES TO ND DO NOT MEAN NOTHING, WE STILL PLAY IN MARCH, APRIL IS WHEN IT ALL COUNTS SO FORGET ALL THE IF’S, AND ALL THE NASTY S ABOUT PLAYERS AND COACHES, WHEN IT COUNTS UCONN PLAYERS COACHES AND UCONN NATION WILL BE THERE, I GUARNDAMTEE IT.
HA HA HA……OH MY GOODNESS AGAIN WOW!!!

  8. FREDDYKOOL

IF DOGGY POO POO WAS ELECTRICITY ALMOST ALL ON THE CHAT WOULD BE POWERHOUSES …….

  9. Olde dude

    Freddy Cool has it right.
Re the ND game: Kelly was still in the game, but the help was not there. KLM stopped shooting and the rest gained a load of experience in a short time. 35 T/os , 5 missed 1&1 foul shots and a bunch of called “fouls” at the crucial time to say nothing of having to play OT with three freshmen on the floor is a tough hole to overcome.
On to the Tournaments and hopefully another final four..

    1. FREDDY UNKOOL

FREDDY SINKHOLE KOOL — IS NEVER RIGHT ABOUT REFS. EVERY CALL IS A BAD CALL, REFS ARE NEVER RIGHT IN HIS VIEW.
DOLSON DID THREE STUPID THINGS FOR A JUNIOR ALMOST SENIOR–MOVING ON A PICK (NO CONTACT NEEDED) IS A VIOLATION/FOUL. BUMPING INTO DIGGINS IS JUST STUPID AND IS A FOUL. ALLOWING DIGGINS TO JUMP INTO HER IS A FOUL.
STEFF (AND GENO) KNOW FOR UCONN TO WIN STEFF HAS TO BE IN THE GAME ALL THE WAY AND THAT INCLUDES 3 OVERTIMES.
STEFF DOLSON — WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR 11 OF THE 35 TURNOVER, TAKE HER TO’S AWAY AND UCONN HAS 24 CLOSER TO ND’S 21.
MO JEFF GAVE THE BALL UP TO DIGGINS FOR A BREAKAWAY LAYUP TWICE. SHE’S SMARTER THAN THAT–BUT MUFFET TEACHES HER TEAM TO GO AFTER THE FRESHMEN, THEY ARE THE WEAKEST LINKS–DID THAT TO KML LAST YEAR IN THE FIRST ND GAME, KML THEN WAS A LIABILITY BECAUSE SHE WAS A FRESHMAN IN AT CRUNCH TIME–NOT ANY MORE!!!!

          1. Awareness

            you would know

your mom just told me about you after making me a sammich

  10. Gee Mo

Don’t come to UConn if you can’t take the heat from fans. Players come to UConn to win championships. So when you fail at your goal expect critism. When you leave UConn no better than you were when you arrived then the red flag goes up.

  11. From the Bone Yard

Don’t measure yourself by the fact you beat Hartford 95-36 or some other weakling team by a ridiculous score. . . you want to be considered elite, beat the elite. Don’t turtle up with 5 or 6 point leads.

  12. Jake from State Farm

Doty, Hartley, and Geno have been blasted in comments. Did not see many complaints about Dolson. Guess fans are ok with 11 turnovers and setting a moving screen eighty feet from the basket.

    1. Mystery Guest

Yes 11 of those turnovers were by Dolson, 5 by Faris. MoJeff got 2 and was pulled and never more to be seen. Doty 4, in crunch OT.

Stokes played good defense and scored in USF or Pitt (one or the other, maybe both). So what crime did she commit such that she didn’t play against ND in the post like Stewart for Defense. And Stokes has scored in big games.

Stewart and Tuck gained valuable, not to be found else where, experience in the ND game. Tickets to that game 40 dollars, Experience playing Priceless!!

      1. Bracchus

Geno’s treatment of Stokes is inexplicable. She has height, defensive and rebounding skils. She passes well and hardly makes any mistakes. She is not flashy and emotional, but maybe you need a calming presence in big games.

Doty and Hartley played horribly, yet he left them in minute anfter minute after minute. It absolutely made no sense. Stewart tried, but she is a freshman who is not used to a lot of physical contact. Starting Tuck certainly made sense. You can see she is getting better and better each game. But, Dolson needs competent backup and help. He has got to use Stokes more-period.

  13. Olde dude

Re Freddy Unkool: Dolson fouled out on two bad calls and two fouls that she should not have made, The three OTs were played with her on the bench so she was not a factor except in the minds of those who want to dream and delude themselves. Gino played the cards dealt him and lost. The reasons are history. Get over it. On to the tournaments.

    1. All the Young Dudes

it’s always the refs fault – never the dumb a$$ players decision making

  14. Chris Saran

If Courtney Ekmark, who plays for St. Mary’s and whose father is the coach at St. Mary’s, is coming to UConn, why wouldn’t other players? Saniya Chong, a big scorer? Really, John? How about incredible shooter, great court vision, amazing passer, team oriented, complete player.Your description of Saniya did her an injustice. As for Breanna, a strengthening program will cure a lot of what ails her. As for the competition she faced, don’t any of you read. Her team played at the Nike tournament against the best of the best and beat Morgan Tuck’s team. Who do you think she was playing against in all those international tournaments, first graders? Yes, she’s had a rough year. However, she will go down as one of the greatest women’s basketball players in UConn history and college and professional basketball.

    1. That's a Wrap

You must be the richest person in the world – knowing exactly what will happen in the future

    2. Bracchus

The problem is that we had people like Diana Tarausi and Maya Moore come here as freshman and live up to their billing. People expected a lot out of the number 1 high school player in the country. Fact is, against lesser teams, she generally plays pretty well. ND and Baylor are elite teams with talent unlike what she was primarily used to before she got here. The intensity level of these games is different. If Dolson and Faris could get better with what appears to be lesser innate talent, Steart will do the same.

  15. martin fallon

I am hoping the basketball team does not read all the negative comments from angry folks calling themselves fans. We saw them play in Tampa and it was a thrill to watch this class operation in action. We have been lucky to witness these young women and the others in that long line of competitive UConn teams. Thanks to all that contributed to this historic athletic legacy. Long may it continue.

    1. Fellon

ef da UCant playors reed thes – thay ar more dummer then wie thunk – wink wink nudge nudge

    2. Bracchus

No question. But, we have set a level of expectation for women’s basketball here in connecticut. Anytime we fall short, the critics will come out. Geno does it himself and kind of sets the tone for that response.
Think about it. he could have taken a different approach. He could have said that his team made a tremendous effort taking a very good ND team at home to three overtimes. He could have complimented Lewis and Faris for playing for 55 and 53 minutes respectively in that effort. He could have used this as learning lesson on what not to do the next time that they face ND. Sure, there were turnovers and dumb plays and all of that, but he could have dealt with that in private.
For, example, when Doty dribbled to the sidelined and got trapped was it really necessary to yell out loud enough for everyone in South Bend ot hear “What the hell are you doing?” No. That is the time the coach wants to show calmness and confidence. You either pull Doty to the side and get her head back in the game or you sit her down and put someone else in. But, for all the criticism of Doty, all well deserved,Geno left her in the game.

  16. Tara from the Farm

If you don’t question Auriemma and believe in everything he says – like Stokes doesn’t deserve playing time but Doty does – you are part of the problem – a cult

    1. Bracchus

Exactamundo. UCONN is a great team with a great coaching staff. No one is going to run them off the floor. They have three loses to the two top teams in the country all in close games. The difference in close games is limiting turnovers so possessions are not wasted, making foul shots, playing consistent defense and having the right players in at the right time. All of those things contributed to UCONN’s defeat at ND. Why wasn’t someone in McBride’s face when she took the 3 point shot? She had an open shot.

The little things kill you in close games with very good opponents.

Skylar Diggins said it best during a post game interview. She said “We just beat a very good team.”

The other mistake that I think Geno made was not playing the freshman a lot more i the blowouts so that they would get game experience. All Mo Jefferson needs is more playing time. This is particularly galling when Doty is giving him nothing. Geno said once that the team seems to calm down when Doty is on the floor. Perhaps “slow down” would be a better description. No offense to Doty, but her injury has taken her out of it. Accept it and le her come off the bench in certain situations.

      1. JUSTME

Great comments.I love Jefferson’s energy and confidence but one thing she cannot improve on is her height. They can shoot over her all day long and there is nothing she can do about it or ever will.

  17. peter obrien

Geno, players need rest, end of game, the mishaps begin…Why was every offensive possession on the right side of the court…another defensive player for n.d. with the out of bounds…can you possibly mix it up on “D”…maybe throw in a quick press, trap, man to man…change the other teams offense…use a time out when its most needed…adjustments swing the momentum…I believe the huskies can do it…help these kids out coach
