Freshman Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis enters her first Elite Eight game Tuesday already with 538 points and 91 three-pointers. Both numbers place her in the top echelon among scorers in program history.

Only Wendy Davis (107 in 1991-92), Renee Montgomery (99 in 2008-09) and Diana Taurasi (92) have ever scored more threes in a season than Mosqueda-Lewis. Her two threes Sunday against Penn State enabled her to pass Maya Moore , who had 90 in the 2008-09 season.

Mosqueda-Lewis, who will play in her 37th game Tuesday, is tied with Svetlana Abrosimova for second place for most points ever scored by a freshman in UConn history. Abrosimova did in 37 games. Moore’s 678 in 38 games in 2007-08 sets the pace. …The Huskies will play their 101st NCAA game Tuesday. They are 84-16 (.840) in 24 appearances. Only Tennessee has appeared in  more tournament games. The Lady Vols will play their 135th Monday night in the Elite Eight against Baylor.

John Altavilla, you have intimately covered the UConn women. Who had a better freshman season, Maya or KML? 4 years from now, where do you think KML would rank among the UConn greats like Diana, Tina, and Maya?

John Altavilla, what will you call Breanna Stewart in your Tweets and Columns? I know you will not keep typing Breanna Stewart. So what will it be? Bre? BStew? Breanna? Stewart? Most definitely not BS. You cannot use The Great One.

FREDDYKOOL, are you okay? I’ve been worried about you because you’ve not been online here lately. Hope all is well.

After Stewart and Jefferson KML will have a lot of sharing to do, so I dont see KML being as prolific as Maya even though she has the talent.

I didn’t realize that KML’s numbers are sooo good. She didn’t look that sharp as the games progressed. These stats really snuck up on me. Good for her!

KML started her UConn career 0-7 from 3PT against Holy Cross in UConn’s first game of the season.

KML has scored in double digits in 30 of UConn’s 36 games.

UConn only lost 1 game in which KML scored in single digits, so KML shows up as well as one could expect from a freshman.

KML is leading the well balanced Huskies in scoring with 14.9 PPG.
