UConn just announced that there will be no announcement on the condition of junior forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis today.
An update on her condition is expected Wednesday, a day when the media that regularly covers the nation’s No. 1 women’s basketball team will meet with Geno Auriemma.
Mosqueda-Lewis injured her right arm in an awkward fall early in the second half of Monday’s 76-57 win over Stanford at Gampel Pavilion.
Once she fell, the 9,529 in the arena fell silent leaving the sound of her agonizing cries to fill the arena.
After rushing out to treat her, UConn’s veteran athletic trainer, Rosemary Ragle, help Mosqueda-Lewis support her arm as she led her to the locker room.
“Kaleena said it was probably one of the most painful things that she felt [in her life], but she was going to be all right,” said Bria Hartley, UConn’s senior guard.
With them was Auriemma, who did his best after the game to inject humor into the serious line of questioning he was getting.
“Rosemary spent a lot of time with [Mosqueda-Lewis] on the floor, asking her questions,” said Auriemma. “I was happy I was there because Rosie was getting some of the answers from her that I usually do … No one could understand what Kaleena was saying, so I felt pretty good about that.”
