Quip From The Quipster
At the end of Geno Auriemma’s talk to the sold out gathering at Monday’s Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce breakfast at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell, the UConn coach consented to a brief Q&A with the audience.
One gentleman wanted to know what the story was with sophomore Kiah Stokes:
“We can’t figure out why some days she is great and some days she’s not so great,” Auriemma said. “It’s frustrating. Really, really frustrating. But everyone has their own timeline and you can’t rush it. Some players are great right away and some take a long time to be great. And some never become great. At least, she’s still young.
“It comes down to this: Two days ago, she looked like Brittney Griner. And yesterday at practice, she looked like Britney Spears.”

Stokes is more Swin Cash then either Speers or Griner.
I’ve seen moments of greatness from Kiah. Probably would have seen more and longer moments if she played more.
Play her long and often in the first 2 games of the NCAA Geno
Makes sense. Let Stokes and the other younger players play. How can you gain experience without playing!
Another publicly snarky comment about one of his players. This guy really inspires confidence.
Geno implying to the world that Stokes plays without her underwear on was way out of line. Freedom of speech has gone way too far but may God Bless America anyways.
Use bench players more during blow-out games rather than running up the score.Play subs regardless of how they practice. And if subs screw-up in games pull them out and calmly explain what they did wrong rather than calling time out and screaming at the offender in front of the rest of the team and the crowd.Oh I forgot this coach has won seven championships I’ve on zero.
You don’t have to play the game to know what’s right or wrong. The Army Swim team coach couldn’t swin a stroke. Yet he produced a championship team.
Geno has for years kept good people on the bench because they didn’t “practice” to his expectation, except Charde.
Maybe, just maybe, if you play them in blow outs they’ll practice to expectations. The carrot vs the stick, the honey vs the vinegar. Harsh dosen’t always work with kids or dogs.
EDD is a tough customer. If she had stayed at UCONN I think we would be on another extended undefeated streak.
The theory is that good practice players are good game players. Like most everything in life, this is not an absolute axiom. Additionally, what constitutes a good practice. If the bad practice is due to a lack of effort, that is one thing. If it is due to mistakes that is quite another. The reality is that you can not reproduce game intensity in practice. Some players just cant get up for internal scrimmages. So, I am not sure that I would sit a player who might help me win because they had a bad practice or two.
Love, love, love the armchair coaches who tell Geno what to do with the players he watches & coaches every day.
Hey advisers… Geno has 18 BIG EAST championships and seven NCAA titles. He’s in the b-ball Hall of Fame, and lost a stunningly shameful FOUR GAMES (GASP!!) this year. (Boy…they should fire his a#$$#!)
So, when it comes to on-court direction, I’ll stick with what Geno thinks works best on the court. You guys and gals in the stands or in your armchairs, keep your coaching to the confines of your environment!
THE PLAYERS WON THE GAMES
HE NEVER SCORED A POINT
HE NEVER GRABBED A REBOUND
HE NEVER DISHED OUT AN ASSIST
HE NEVER STOLE THE BALL
HE AIN’T NUTHIN’
Interesting: The same can be said of you. I’ll stick with Geno. He has the rep and he’s funny. You aren’t.
after talking with my mommy she explained that Gino was not funny but that his not so funny attempt at sarcasm was mechanism to hide his failures and fears and lack of self confidence its psychology 101
We can’t figure out why some days he is dumb and some days he’s so dumb that he forgot basketball 101
Yiu are truly the king of dumb, the only thing that is dumb is your knowledge of basketball and talent. Oh, don’t forget if you want to get out of your house you need to turn the knob on the door or you will not get out.
Hi my name is UconnFan and here i am in my mommy’s basement trolling the ucant chat boards and not knowing that there is technology that allows people to sit by the pool with their laptops
UConn got ripped off! Notre Dame got the easiest path the the Final Four. It’s fixed. The committee wants Skylar to win a national championship because it would be great for the face of the sport. UConn’s got the toughest region. Stanford’s got an easy region too. Same old story. Committee hates UConn because of Gino.
Unless UCONN is playing ND or Baylor in the early rounds, they do not have a tough schedule. They might be playing some slightly better teams than ND and Baylor. My guess is they will breeze through. If they end up playing Kentucky, that one might be tough.
Bracc–Kentucky got beat in their leagues championship by Texas A&M. Because UK has only one real inside player.
It won’t be an easy game. But with Stewart, Dolson, Stokes, Tuck playing around the post and Mo Jeff taking out their point. I think it’s a win for Uconn.
UConn will have no trouble with Kentucky, not even Samarie’s mohawk will intimidate!
Texas A & M beat Kentucky, now go check the score when UConn played Texas A & M. ‘Nuff said!
GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!
We will see. Sometimes teams play over their heads in a tournament. UCONN has shown vulnerability losing 4 games this year. Like Mike Tyson after the loss to Buster Douglas, their aura of invincibility is gone.
All that said, the Finals will be Baylor versus UCONN or ND.
