The Connecticut Sun waived free agent guard Dawn Evans Tuesday leaving the WNBA team one above the 11-player limit.. The team must be down to 11 players by Thursday at 2 p.m.

Evans was signed to a training camp contract on March 16. The former James Madison star averaged 8.7 minutes for the Sun in three preseason games. Against New York on May 7, the 5-foot-7 guard had five assists and one steal. She  had one rebound and one steal against Minnesota on May 10 and three points, one rebound and one assist at Washington Monday.

The last roster cut may likely be second-round draft pick Chay Shegog of North Carolina. The center has played well in camp, but Tina Charles will return soon from a sore groin that has kept her out of all three preseason games.

The Sun open the season Saturday at Madison Square Garden against the New York Liberty. The game was originally scheduled for the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., but moved because of Game 3 of the NHL playoff series between the Rangers and Devils.

No surprises with any WNBA cuts.

WNBA season is Too Short, just like WCBB.

    Games are at a Premium.

WNBA teams would still Not successfully Develop players Even If they were permitted 13 players.

Most coaches at the college or pro level Prefer a Rotation of 8 players or Less, so that adds to the Lack of Development of the Bench Players.

Brian Agler is the Geno Auriemma of the WNBA when it comes to using the Thin Bench excuse if 1 of their 3 Superstars is Injured, on National Team Duty, or Graduated.

  2. Uconn Fan says:

Dawn Evan was the James Madison U star and Player of the year for 2 year, even with EDD in the mix, of the CAA. Evan’s team beat EDD year after year. Poor kid has real problems with her kidneys–real problems.
But she was the leading NCAA scorer ahead of Maya Moore and EDD in at least 2 of her last 3 college years.
She is much better than this article indicates. The CAA will long remember the gutzy girl who once was a movie and tV star who was a standout BB player .
Here is hoping some Wnba team sees the real talent this kid has–she is an asset to any team that gets her.

I am a true blue UConn Fan but I too am a real fan of this short talented hard playing woman, and she’s beautiful.
