The Connecticut Sun announced late Wednesday that it signed Tan White to a one-year contract extension.
“We are really happy to have Tan back for another year,” Sun Vice President and General Manager Chris Sienko said. “She has been a part of our core group, helping us bring our team back to prominence in the league. She sets a wonderful example for the younger players by always working hard on and off the court, and that approach has also made her a fan favorite.”
Originally signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2009, White joined the Sun after four seasons with the Indiana Fever. In her fourth season with Connecticut, White is averaging 4.8 points and is second on the team in three-point shooting at 36.4 percent (16-of-44).
“I am really happy to be returning to the Sun next year,” White said. “Playing in Connecticut has been a great experience for me. I really enjoy playing in front of the best fans in the WNBA.”
In her first three seasons, White averaged 8.4 points with 121 made three-pointers in 98 games. She shot a career-best 37.7 percent (49-of-130) from three in 2009 and 36.6 percent (49-of-134) in 2010.
“I’m glad we could get this done before the season is over,” Sun coach Mike Thibault said. “Tan has been a big part of our progress over the last couple of years and we’re trying to keep the core of this team together. She has obviously made a big contribution to our success.”
White was the top scorer in NCAA Division I as a senior at Mississippi State, averaging 23.8 points per game.
