Three-Pointers Back In Play For UConn

by Categorized: 2013 NCAA Tournament, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, UConn women's basketball Date:

One of the most unusual elements of UConn’s loss to Notre Dame in the Big East tournament championship game was that the Huskies took only five threes and made none.

It was the first time it was shut out behind the arc since beating Oklahoma in the national championship game in 2002. The Huskies were 11-of-22 on Saturday.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, ranked first nationally in three-point shooting (106-of-212) did not attempt one. But her two threes Saturday moved her with one of tying Wendy Davis for the most made in a single-season in program history.

The announced crowd of 4,627 was the smallest at Gampel Pavilion since March 1994

More about the ND loss–what’s wrong with John? Has his brain got stuck in Notre Dame?? Real Journalists (Fuller, Elliot) have let go of that dog a long time ago.

Uconn makes 3′s against lessor teams, Has had problems with the top two teams and South Fla. Teams that play great perimeter defense don’t allow KML or Faris or Doty or Dolson to set up and shoot.
Saw a good quick release by KML today, she’ll need that as she gets further down the NCAA toward the Title.
Some how Uconn will need to learn to use the inside game to open up the 3. Teams that rely on the 3 tend to forget how to drive and attack the basket. Jefferson did a nice job of that today as did Tuck and Hartley–can they bring that game to New Orleans??

Have to agree on most of that, and it also goes both ways.
When UConn is ineffective getting the ball inside (zone D) the 3 is open. And when you have a KML out there, let it rip, and force the D to come-out and defend, opening the inside.
But definitely, inside-out is the way to go, rather than relying too much on 3-balls, which can be an all or nothing proposition.

        1. et cetera et cetera

since basketball is such a simple game why doesn’t uconn fire gino and let marissa be the head coach for 90k

Perhaps you should submit your carefully thought-out and reasonable idea to the UConn A.D. for thorough consideration.
But really, why stop there? Why pay anyone 90k when you’d likely do it for free?

I should be UConn’s head coach for free. I know everything there is to know about basketball. My previous posts prove it such as this one.

UConn demolished South Florida after the first fifteen minutes. If you can go inside, why shoot threes. That’s what happened when they beat the Bulls. I was at the game.

    1. Here--etc

Chris –is that an agree or dis agree. Seems you’ve made my point. If (and only if) the inside game is working,go inside.
To open the inside you, if well defended, must hit from the outside to open it up.

If you are shut down on the outside, go inside to open that up.

When it gets dicey is when (as Baylor did in the second half) you get shut down or you shut yourself down on the out side and you Cant get to the inside.

        1. Awareness

Why even have a coach? Didn’t the girls spend three days figuring things out for themselves when Geno and the coaches were away for three days? Look how great they played. They just missed a scoring record and without Stewart!
