Tiffany Hayes Out With Stress Injury
Just moments ago, UConn announced that senior Tiffany Hayes has not practiced since the end of the Big East tournament because of a stress injury to her right ankle.
She is wearing a boot. The Huskies plan to hold her out of practice until Thursday, at the earliest. She is listed as probable for UConn’s first-round game Saturday, most likely in Bridgeport.

No one noticed Hayes walking around campus in a boot? Say what? Would have thought a photo of Hayes in boot would have been posted somewhere by now. Even if it is precautionary, Miami and Kentucky can give UConn problems, especially those slow of foot. No pun intended.
Miami is supposedly very good and very athletic; Kentucky beat TN but then was blown out by them in their tournament. It would be nice to see CT go against former team mate, Samarie Walker. Looking at the other regionals, it appears to me that CT made out pretty good and avoided meeting teams like MD and TN. However, Wisconsin Green Bay in the other bracket is considered a serious threat and had a great season. If the Huskies can play like they did against St John’s and ND, there’s no reason why they can’t make it to the Final Four.
If Tiffany is still in the boot this time next week, I’ll be concerned. She’s important, but not important to risk injuring against the likes of PV A&M.
Play it safe. Tiff won’t be needed until game 3.
If Auriemma plays Hayes in either the first two rounds, then the injury was blown way out of proportion with the boot. Or a worse scenario, Auriemma does not trust the other 5.5 players in the rotation.
I sincerely hope she is not seriously hurt, but I do wonder, if she is hurt, which Tiffany was hurt – the one who showed up for half the games and scored and played well or the other Tiffany who was on again/off again.
Maybe if KML starts for her and Geno adds Stokes to the starting rotation for the first two games, we might find out that Tiffany could come in off the bench for a few games.
UCONN will go further in the tournament with Dolson (OUT) and Stokes (IN) together.
Please show me another top 25 team that has 4 players 6’3″ and over and only starts one of them, playes another 20 percent of the time and plays the other two so seldom it is statistically insignificant.
Stanford, Duke, Notre Dame and a few others play young bigs off the bench more regular than UCONN
UConn’s infamous THIN BENCH will bite them in the buttocks and the Huskies will lose because of it. Just like last year, this team is capable of having one player (Maya/KML) score a lot of points, one player (Hartley) have an average games, and the rest do nothing offensively significant. Auriemma’s excuse will be “I told you so, I told you we would not win the championship this year”. Way to go out on the limb Geno. Like no one knew 6’8″ Griner and USA PG Sims would be the favorite to win it all.
