Here is the report from FIBA about the opening game of the preliminary round of the Americas U18 Championship for Women.

UConn freshman Morgan Tuck scored 23 to lead the United States to a 99-26. win over the Dominican Republic in Puerto Rico.

  The USA shot  only 29 percent from the field in the first quarter. However, the U.S. made adjustments and had a huge second quarter (31-4) to end the first half with a 46-17. lead.

  Tuck scored 13 in the quarter.  Other incoming UConn freshmen also contributed. Breanna Stewart added 14 points, three rebounds and three blocks. Moriah Jefferson had eight points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals.

  Thursday. the United States plays Argentina

    Morgan Tuck will be a key piece for the Huskies. She’s been flying under the radar. She will get substantial minutes and combined with Stefanie Dolson, Kiah Stokes, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, and Breeana Stewart, UConn will have a formidable and imposing front court.

    It’s great that we will have a Jefferson in a prominent position again. With all the talk of Tuck and Stewart don’t forget Moriah. It’s going to be a great year. Did anyone else notice Geno knows how to take the big girls out of the Olympic games for USA wins??? It’s going to be a great year for UConn..
