Great news for UConn women’s basketball fans…
Deb Corum, UConn’s senior administrator for women’s basketball, said Sunday that UConn will resume its regular-season rivalry with Notre Dame beginning next season prior to start of conference play.
Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw confirmed the resumption Sunday night, saying the two-game series will begin in South Bend next season. The Irish will play in Connecticut during the 2015-16 season.
This is a game the sport really needs to play on an annual basis. Notre Dame, which has beaten UConn seven of the last nine times they’ve played – of course, not during last season’s national semifinals – is right now one of the few teams in the nation (perhaps the only one) with a legitimate chance to blocking the Huskies path to a ninth national title.
The series ended after Notre Dame left to join the ACC. Both sides have worked hard to bring the game back. And now we know its back, hopefully to stay.
The Huskies will also resume their series with DePaul, coached by Geno’s national team assistant, Doug Bruno, next season at UConn.,
Also, next year’s game with South Carolina, which begins a two-year cycle, will be played at UConn on Dec. 22, meaning the Huskies will be home for the holidays
