USA Basketball 3×3 Team Now 4-0
The USA Basketball women’s 3×3 team went 2-0 again to improve to 4-0 in preliminary round play at the inaugural FIBA 3×3 World Championships for Men and Women in Athens, Greece.
The USA Women’s earned both victories before the 10-minute game clock expired as the first team to 21 points; 21-14 win over previously undefeated Bulgaria (2-1) and 21-12 decision against Argentina (2-2).
Of course, the USA women’s team includes UConn junior Bria Hartley, Notre Dame senior Skylar Diggins, Stanford junior Chiney Ogwumike and former UConn star Ann Strother.
“I think we’re just a group of talented players. You have three players that play NCAA basketball and you have Ann (Strother) who was a professional player. We can all score in a variety of ways and so that’s hard for teams to stop. They have to come out and make sure they guard each player so we try to make sure we get to the basket every time,” said Hartley.
“I think we compliment each other. You have me and Sky who are like playmakers, then you have Ann who is a shooter, then Chiney who can bang inside. So you have a bunch of people with different types of games but we all compliment each other. We can shoot it and we can bang it inside as well, so it’s good to have a variety of options when you’re playing these teams.”

Diggins will play for the CT Sun next season, where Lawson will help her both on the court and at ESPN. Montgomery and Jones will be traded along with the Sun’s #1 draft picks in 2014 and 2016.
EDD will play for the Mystics. Griner will get drafted by the Shock and then traded to the Silver Stars for 3 legitimate WNBA starters and 2 #1 draft picks.
There will be another case of Injury Gate during the 2015 WNBA season, when teams will try to get the best odds of drafting Breanna Stewart in April 2016.
WNBA is committed to having local talent on their pro teams so it’s much more likely Indiana will find a way to have Indiana native Skylar Diggins on their team. No doubt she would be a perfect fit for the Sun as she is a great player and a solid physical presence at point guard. Sun guards are undersized and end up with some tough defensive matchups. Kelly Faris though originally from Indiana would be a great addition to the Sun for her all around game and would be the defensive player the Sun need. They have enough offense.
Meanwhile, still NO WORD about Kelly Faris, since Miss Falls A Lot failed to attempt a game winning shot in the semi final loss. What’s up wit dat?
Siobhan Rushin will be drafted by the Sun in 2025 by General Manager and part Owner Moore. The team is hoping to repeat as league champion.
I thought I’d like to add my own random comment about 3×3 basketball.
