I am so excited about this coming year with the class that is coming in. She will be a nightmare for Brittny to guard becuse she can also shoot the “3″ ball and take you off the dribble going to the basket.
Baylor’s post Griner will not be guarding UConn’s forward Stewart. Baylor has a few athletic players at least 6’3″ to guard Stewart with.
What if Geno decides to go a little quicker and replaces Dolson with Tuck, a big who won the “3″ contest and three guards, Brittney will need to guard one of them – priceless. Geno is going to have a lot of options next year. I believe I smell another national championship if there are no serious injuries.
Good luck to anyone on Baylor trying to guard Stewart one-on-one.
Play zone, make Clank Doty and Air Faris win it for UConn. Stewart has not been playing against big bodies in high school for 39 games. If refs allow Stewart to get mauled like EDD, could be a difficult freshman year. Stewart looks like she is 30 but looks like she has not lost her baby teeth.
Wow only 6-3 and can dunk. How about that Brittney.
Thanks John,that made my day!
Forget the dunking; look at the smile on her face. Like the TV commercial says: Priceless.
I watched this Powerjam broadcast last night (the Baylor/Tenn. game was not compelling, unfortunately. One of the RARE times I was rooting for the gals in orange!). Breanna’s dunks were great to see. Additionally, Morgan Tuck won the girl’s 3 Point Shoot-Out, which is even better to see than dunks! Morgan beat out recruits going to Baylor and Notre Dame. Sweeter still!
Not to bad for a girl thats only 6′-3″ tall, But lets not get to excited here folks, as I really don’t see Geno allowing her to do any of this dunking stuff at UConn, just don’t, not his style of play, not to mention that she gives up 5 inches to Brittney ! I’m more concerned about when these two new recruits come in here this fall, where playing time my become an issue with some of the girls, and who may want to transfer because of it. Brianna Banks & Kia Stokes come to mind right away, I don’t see these two girls riding a bench for the next couple of years, where you still have Dolson & Buck and others on the bench already that will be seniors and juniors who will be competing for playing time as well. This team is going to be pretty deep in back up players, and something is going to have to give somewhere. going to be very interesting to see what happens with the girls team based on if they should win the National Championship this year, who stays and who transfers maybe next season.
It does not make a difference how deep we think the 2012-13 UConn team will be. As of March 1, 2013, Auriemma will revert to using 5.5 or 6.5 players and tell us the others have not earned playing time in practice.
John, let’s settle this once and for all, is she 6’3″ or 6-4. I’ve been seeing both figures for over a year now.
Do the work yourself and find the answer to the question that keeps you up at night.
Hope that Stewart, Jefferson, and Tuck survive UConn Boot Camp. With all the hype since the beginning of this season, it would be a shame to find out that one or more of The Big Three does not bring it in practice like Kiah Stokes. As we were reminded by Stokes and Banks playing time, it is not what we think about UConn players abilities, it is what Geno thinks. Go Huskies.
No one has to transfer…..If you can play there is nothing to worry about. It doesnt matter where you are you the coaches have to be able to trust you on the floor. Depth is a good thing. All coaches want to have good solid depth in the front court and back court just in case of injuries. And all players want to play and win National Championships…..If you have skill and talent you will earn your way unto the floor. Players need not fear competition , but embrace it. Compete everyday in practice and make yourself better.
Basketball is a team sport. It is not about the player as much as it is about TEAM.
I have been following the girls for over twenty years and I do not remember one girl transferring due to lack of playing time. Uconn’s standards are no secret to these recruits and they know what to expect before they sign. They also know no matter how good they are, Geno will bench you like he did Tina Charles in the Big East tournament if he feels you are not giving your best.
If playing time – no matter how and for whom – is the most important UCONN probably is a risk for anyone. If you want to win and win and go to the big time tournaments and win – you go to UCONN.
No one can tell how you are going to do in a new environment and in a new team. Sue B. was supposed to be the “worst” in her class at UCONN and a risk to play. Look how that turned out.
Practices, Geno at times, and the pressure must be terrible but look at the faces of the women when they collect Big East tournament championships and more.
Much has been said recently about lack of fan attendance. My view is it’s more than just playing basketball, it’s about entertainment. Both DT and Maya were skilled players, the difference in fan attendance was because DT was entertaining, Maya was not. This Stewart looks entertaining; the smile, the personality, etc. enhances the fans’ overall basketball experience and will make people want to fill the stands once again. But that’s next year, right now we have a tournament to win.
Norm B Gone – you created your name just for this??? I had not idea an honest question would hit your raw nerve(s).
#1. I sleep fine.
#2. I have a tape measure but not the proximity.
#3. Up yours.
I find it hilarious….. how all the carping trolls that have been droning about how thin UCONN’s bench is, or that “evil” Geno doesn’t play Heather Buck enough have moved on to fantasizing about players transferring because there aren’t enough minutes to go around.
Priceless.
there seems to be some discussion about falling attendance @ the games.Jacobs actually seemed to say UConn fans may be racist because they don’t have a white star and people won’t support them. I reminded him of a player named Sales & what happened when he insulted her..I wish some sports writer-such as the girls beat writer, ahem, address the cavalier attitude that UConn has concerning the fans-lousy services, parking, seating etc,etc @ Gampel, the rip-off legalized ticket scalping and on and on.Of course we’re all spoiled by success just like Geno. But the bottom line is-GO HUSKIES!!!
USA Basketball lists Brianna Stewart’s height at 6’7″.
Enough about Stewart. How about the other recruits coming in? Jefferson seems to be an unknown . Where did she play?I saw Stewart play against Tuck here in Phoenix and she looked good but she wasnt lights out.Lets not drive her away ith all the hype
I think we re finally
feelin batta over the loss of Elena
