If you have just returned from the movies, the pizzeria or the grocery store, or if you just woke up from a nap, may I be the first to inform you that West Virginia went to Notre Dame Sunday and knocked off the No. 2 Irish, 65-63.

The was Notre Dame’s first Big East loss of the season, which means the Irish and No. 3 UConn now each have one loss in the conference.

If things stay this way, the teams will play for the Big East regular-season championship on Feb. 27 at the XL Center – winner take all.

Previous to Sunday’s loss, it was entirely conceivable that the Big East was going to need to flip a coin after that game – if UConn won – to determine the top seed since UConn’s lone conference loss came at Notre Dame on Jan. 7.

Of course, UConn (11-1) still has three conference games remaining before Notre Dame – at Pitt (Feb 21), at Marquette (Feb. 25) and home against St. John’s on Saturday at Gampel.

The Irish (11-1) host Providence Tuesday, play at Louisville (Feb.20) and host South Florida (March 25).

  3. John, bring me back a “WhatABurger” with onions and the works. Try it, you’ll like it. OK City is one of the nicests, cleanest cities in the USA. Norman, can you believe I went to a USN Air School there??
Watched the ND/WVa game. It was a great game, Mike had a great game plan and his players executed properly. Showed Uconn how to defeat ND. Push Diggins to her right. Stop Novesel, control the boards, don’t let their press bother you–easy!!! Yea!! But Wva did it. ND got the foul call for them again. But eventually even biased refs had to call the fouls at center court. UConn is now tied for #1 in the big East and probably will be #2 in the Nation. NOW ladies beat the Sooners and come home.

I also watched most of the ND game. Diggins was great and scored 32 points but WV stopped Novosel. I recall that WV played UCONN tough also and out-rebounded UCONN just as they did ND. Bussey, their big girl played a great game just as she got the best of Dolson [I think]. They will be an even better team next year when they have Bria Holmes [Hillhouse] who chose WV over UCONN. I think Holmes is the real deal and I predict she will be a standout player for Coach Carey.

    • HUSKY FAN says:

Bria Holmes was not recruited at all by UCONN and was not offered a scholarship their and that is the reason she went to WVU it was not a matter of choosing WVU over UCONN. In my opinion she is extremely overated and not good enough to be anything other than a mop up player at the Big East level.

TO THE HUSKY FAN ABOVE TALK WHAT YOU KNOW AND STOP HATING SHE HAD ALREADY SIGNED TO WVU THEN THEY WANT TO TALK (UCONN )DO YOUR HOMEWORK THEY ARE FEELING SOME TYPE OF WAY NOW MCDONALDS ALL AMERICAN GOING OUT OF STATE TO PLAY AND AS FOR AS YOUR COMMENT MOP UP PLAYER SHE WILL BUST YOUR ASS IN BALL BRING IT COMING FROM A REAL TRUE FAN OF BRIA

  6. Olde Dude says:

WATCHED ONLY THE LAST 10-12 MINUTES, BUT ENOUGH TO SEE THAT AT LEAST 6 PLAYERS(ugh) HAD 4 OR MORE FOULS. COACH CAREY KEPT GOING TO BUSSEY UNTIL BOTH CENTERS(PETERS AND AMANHO:SIC) FOULED OUT. DIGGINS TRIED AND FAILED WINNING IT BY HERSELF ON A DRIVE TO THE HOOP;BOOHOO/YAHOO!!. THE TAPE SHOULD BE VERY REVEALING.

  7. NewHavenJude says:

What a nice surprise!!!! :-) Of course, WE still have to beat ND & I think we will.

I watched the game and thought WV had a chance to win. West Virginia had a good strategy on offense: Get the ball in the post and force ND to foul. UCONN needs to watch the game and see what WV did right. UCONN relies too much on 3 pt shooting. Of course, WV also benefited from way too many fouls being called on both sides.

The curse of the NY Times magazine, featuring a stylized Skylar Diggins in her home uniform, and ND loses to West Virgina. Diggins did well, but the team lost. I’m hoping the ladies from South Bend get another accolade before they play UCONN. Play smart, you Huskies.
