Good question, glad you asked.

The reason the Sun playoff game was not on television Saturday was because MSG, which covers the Liberty, had local rights to the broadcast above and beyond NBATV.

What does that mean? It means Connecticut is close enough geographically to MSG’s audience that any other station covering the game – that is not a local CT affiliate – must be blacked out, according to law.

If you want to be mad at someone, give the Sun and the WNBA heat for not working hard enough to find a local broadcast outlet to pick up the rights fpr their loyal fans.

Never fear, however, the all three games of the Eastern Conference finals will be on ESPN2.

    Hi Mr. A.,
Thanks for that bit of information. But in an effort to avoid double negatives in any statement or question, I believe the above heading should read, “Why was Saturday’s Connecticut Sun’s Game Not On TV?” Writing “Why Wasn’t Saturday’s Connecticut Sun’s Game Not On TV?” reminds me of something your colleague (Don) would do.

        Mr. A.,
Thank you for making the correction. I also want to thank you for covering the Uconn, UHart Women and CT WNBA basketball teams. The coverage is truly appreciated and I’m anxiously awaiting the start of the college games. Have a great night.

I use a DVR to record everything on TV,including UCONN and Sun games. Late on Sat. night, I was wondering why the game was not recording nor did NBATV show it on their lineup as they did a few days before when I hit the record button. So now I know what happened, thanks John. By the way, where have you been lately–not writing Sun articles and not producing UCONN blogs. Have you been ill?

If MSG had the rights to broadcast the game, then why was it not broadcast here on MSG? I specifically looked in the guide at MSG and it was broadcasting something else. The game was even blacked out on WNBA LiveAccess so it could not even be watched online!!!

Helpful info. Fortunate me I discovered your website by accident, and I’m stunned why this coincidence didn’t happened earlier! I bookmarked it.
